Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a popular shopping mall in Boston with many stores and restaurants. It was built in 1742 by wealthy businessman Peter Faneuil, and has been a part of American history since its inception. The hall is famous for being the site of important speeches and gatherings during the early days of the American Revolution.

Amazing food vendors. Awesome stores. Great foods. Wasn't too crowded but it was still crowded on a Friday afternoon. The entire market was surprisingly clean. But the bathrooms were not, especially in the men's bathroom. It is a public area so no surprise. Each vendor has their own unique type of foods as well. The clam chowder is excellent from any of the vendors. Didn't have a bad experience with any of the clam chowder. The lobster rolls were great but expect to pay $30+ for lobster rolls. The seafood here is expensive. Expect to spend easily over $50 for food. Overall, a cool place to check out but don't forget to budget in the parking lot fee if you're on a budget.

I went in here as a quick stop since we were just there for a day through a cruise, but I highly enjoyed myself and was wonderfully surprised at how educational it was. I didn't realize Boston was such a big part of our American history in more ways than one. It's truly inspirational; the spirit of revolution lingers in the air. The marketplace has an old structure, but it's pretty modern. I liked that I didn't really see a lot of big franchises or big brand names. Highly recommend this as a stop while in town.

A great shopping center to buy gifts or have a typical Boston meal.In the surroundings of the Quincy market we have many stores that sell shirts, coats and other types of gifts in the city.Inside, in addition to handicraft and local gift shops, we have several options for food, from natural juices and the famous lobster sandwich to pizzas and ice cream.Whenever we go to Boston, the Quincy market is an almost mandatory stop on our itinerary.Be prepared to spend good hours between shops and restaurants.Or even just observe the architecture or artistic presentations in the surrounding streets.

Leandro Wanderley Couto da Silva — Google review

Love this place. Quincy market is the best. Recommended for visitors and locals. I can get my pizza, lobster roll, candy apple and cannoli fix all in one spot!!! And last time I went they had live music which was super cool!!

This is a really cool place in Boston. They have so many food options. It’s like a food market. And the building is really nice. Only thing they don’t have enough seating options. The day we went it was very crowded we didn’t find any chair. Difficult to find parking near by. You have to park far and walk. But worth going there.

Kalhari Jayasinghe — Google review

Hit this place up. It has amazing food options and street entertainment on the weekends. Good shopping around it too! Get your lobster roll, ice cream, Asian food and so much more!

Lindsay Libhart — Google review

It's centrally located place where you can find Delicious food (lobster 🦞), pizza, ice cream 🍦 🍨, and plenty of shop. I had delicious vegetarian Chowder soup at Boston Chowda

Arppit Pradhan — Google review

My favorite place to go in Boston. We went late after returning from a trip to Spectacle Island so most of the food options were closed. Ice cream of course still available! Still always fun to walk around a bit and enjoy the scene. Definitely was a very good singer / guitar player performing which was nice. Best to go earlier in the day to enjoy all the many food options inside Quincy Market.

What a great place to visit! It was busy and bustling with lots of booths offering different crafts and wares. Got some high quality Boston memorabilia here to bring back home with me. Better than all the cheap touristy stuff you could find elsewhere. Plus there's lots of history to look at after you shop!

Heather Rose Morris — Google review

This place was nice to visit had tons of variety in the food hall. Downside parking cost us over $40 for 3 hrs the most absurd thing ever! A ton of little kiosks to shop at. We walked around the city and to the park.

V Rose — Google review

A good place for meeting up with friends? Or maybe that special someone and has a bit of everything that offers a vibrant atmosphere as well as the romantic one. I love the activities that are going on from people showcasing their talents to locals, having fun in a sense of activities maybe it is that include visitors. It's a very warm welcoming vibe that it gives off and it's one of my favorite places to visit while I'm in downtown Boston. In fact I can say that area in general is my favorite place to just be alone and think of with company. My favorite next to Wharfs Landing or Boston Inner Harbor.

Scotia Thompson — Google review

It was amazing. So much to look at and so much to purchase food variety was amazing entertainment outside, along with it was great. It's a must visit spot for sure. Can't wait to visit again

Penelope Murphy — Google review

Nice selection of food, we went back several times when in the area. One Sunday afternoon there was a girl playing a violin, it was so beautiful. I wished I would have her information to buy some CDs.

This place is magnificent and tons of history and shopping... Def happy to wander around north south and Quincy markets. Wonder place to browse buy and def eat. Def want to go back in the near future and do some more tours of tasty treats

Was not exactly what I was expecting. While the history being Faneuil Hall is interesting, most of the marketplace is across the courtyard in the Quincy Maket. They have a display that encircles the middle of the hall describing what slavery was like in Boston during the Colonial period and stories of former slaves. I found that every educational. There are a few shops that line the outsides of the hall.Still worth the visit though.

William Krause — Google review

Absolutely loved this place. The history, the food and the shopping is all in one spot. Many hours of enjoyment were had while here for 5 days. Can't wait to go back.

BountyHunter JL — Google review

This area including Quincy market is just bursting with entertainment and vibe. The market stalls have so much to offer and there’s a bonus of a public restroom. Local entertainment outside daily and just a fun place to sit and people watch. Lots of dining options And a fun spot for a few hours.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a legendary food court with quote a variety of offerings. Highly recommended! Photos of vendors included in my review. Of course it’s called a tourist trap, but it’s a great one.

David Blumberg — Google review

A cool marketplace/mall. There are lots of restaurant stalls and a central seating area. When I visited, there was someone playing violin covers in the main area, which was super cool! It’s close to several historic locations, so it’s a convenient pitstop on your city exploration tour.

If you wanted to go visit a souvenir shop, one of the best place to visit as outside the hall there are some activitiesPlus behind is the north, south and quincy market apart from souvenir shop there are some shopping areas and food shopsWere you can go grab to eat, dine on or before shopping. Its an all in one place to be!

Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston proved to be a winter wonderland during my recent visit, despite the icy and snowy conditions that enveloped the city. The historic charm of the marketplace, coupled with the festive atmosphere, created a magical experience.Navigating through the cobblestone streets and historic buildings adorned with twinkling lights, I discovered a bustling hub of activity. The market's diverse array of shops and eateries offered a warm respite from the chilly weather outside. From sipping hot cocoa to indulging in local treats, the marketplace became a delightful refuge from the winter elements. The Quincy Market building, with its iconic architecture, provided shelter from the snowfall while offering an eclectic mix of shops and food stalls. Even in the midst of wintry conditions, street performers and lively crowds added an energetic vibe to the scene.Faneuil Hall Marketplace's ability to transform into a festive haven, even in icy weather, showcases its timeless appeal. It's not just a shopping destination; it's an immersive experience that weaves together history, culture, and the resilience of Bostonians in the face of winter's embrace.

Kyle Rowntree — Google review

Nice shopping center with lots of stores outside. Went inside the Quincy Market and it was a long food hall. There's seating in the middle and a second floor with more tables.

Cabbage — Google review

It's definitely a "festival marketplace."During the urban renewal of Boston, led by mall developer James Rouse, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market is a tale of urban revitalization through globalized capitalism. It is certainly more for tourists than locals. It is a beautiful set of buildings and has a lot of history, but most of the tenants of Quincy Market are the same chains you'll see in other nationalized festival marketplaces like Saint Augustine or Chattanooga. Still, go and view it, it's pretty and lively.

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

This museum tells the story of the Boston Tea Party with live re-enactments and full-sized replica 18th century ships. It is located in the heart of the citys Seaport District, and provides a fully immersive tour led by passionate team of historical actors.

Absolutely worth the money! Loved the actors in costume and being given a character to play. Photos are ok to be taken everywhere except in the museum. The story is animated in various ways and media. So cool. The tea is delicious- I bought some and other treats at the gift shop. Really spent a very enjoyable two hours here.

Yvonne Beck — Google review

As soon as the doors opened 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour, each person was given a card describing someone who was present at the original Boston tea party. The actors are dressed in colonial attire and are kind, well-mannered, well-informed, and fun! Children as well as adults all seemed to have a great time; there was a great sense of camaraderie is though we were all in on the plot together! I appreciated the blend of hands-on experience, creative presentation and short films. There isn’t a lot to see in the museum in terms of quantity, but I felt I got my money’s worth in terms of the overall experience. I’m glad that I made the time for it. I did also pay just under four dollars for the tea tasting experience, sampling the five types of teas that were tossed overboard that fateful night. I enjoyed the novelty of the tea tasting.

Carole — Google review

The actor and actress here are doing the fabulous job to bring you back the America’s history event. The cafe food were served in cold and doesn’t taste good but the museum shop and overall experiences were excellent! Get to know the details of America’s history event in person it’s really special experience.

Jean Tsou — Google review

We took a group of 135 students and chaperones there today, and had a wonderful experience! The staff there is truly dedicated to each and every tour. Our sales manager Scott Harris truly went above and beyond to ensure that our group had dedicated tour times, and accommodated our large party with great customer service. The place itself is really cool, as it makes you step back in time to Colonial days. The reenactments are very good, and "throwing" tea in the harbor a great tradition. The gift shop had many great items, including all sorts of teas. The upstairs restaurant/cafeteria also has good food option, and multiple tea you can sample! Great overall experience thanks to Scott and his dedicated team!

Steve Rainville — Google review

Amazing! Some actors dressed in colonial-era clothing relive and recount the historic moments that marked the Boston tea party revolt. Really very interesting to have the opportunity to relive this moment and learn a little more about one of the first historical moments that led to the American revolution and the country's independence. Really, the most interesting thing is the work of the guides who make the story come alive and during the entire tour they participate in the staging, making you feel like you are living in that historic moment. My son really loved tossing the tea box overboard! As I said, this way of making the visitor participate in the historic moment is very exciting and lively! I really recommend it! A museum with a proposal very different from many I've visited!

Chiara Secco — Google review

We took two friends from the UK with us and they Loved it as much as we did! Great interactive live action environment with costumes!! We went into the belly of an old ship! Ridiculously cool! The media was high tech and well done… the Tea afterwards was delicious and the dining hall was just delightful. Loved all of the amazing things for sale in the gift shop! All around WELL worth the money, especially if you have kids, they Loved throwing the big tea boxes over the side of the ship! FUN!

Mark Wisehart — Google review

Wonderful historical tour! These actors are amazing! They put so much effort into giving a fun, informative tour! The kids in our tour group had so much fun throwing the boxes of tea overboard! Puts a lot into perspective. Definitely buy your tickets to this tour & enjoy! The tea room is also cute & they have a nice gift shop!

Amanda Maisto — Google review

Loved the performance and overall immersion into the past. The actors really made you feel part of the history. And to stand on the actual ships was pretty cool too. Tour takes about 1 hour and is well worth the price of admission.

BountyHunter JL — Google review

Recommended. One must participate to have fun, and also learn. It is a one-hour experience all together. It offers dramatization that informs about the historical event. I'd say it's a little pricey, but I was more than satisfied with the experience. I even purchased souvenirs (very unlikely from my part...lol.). Maybe if the tea tasting, something that one must do during a rainy afternoon anyway, were included it'd be a different feeling. Please take your kids and participate. My favorite part was the assembly, though others in my party didn't like it...lol. There is a moment on the ship replica (nice), some screening and museum, and finally a short movie. Well now, I'm off for a cup of tea.

Evan C. — Google review

Definitely too pricey ($32 x adult) for the 1 hour tour. A special shout out to the actor (4/22 2PM East meeting tour), he was so passionate and professional with the speech, it felt so real. Great job! There are plenty of souvenir options at the Gift shop, make sure to stop by before leaving. It was also worth it the tea tasting experience, you pay $8 something and they give you a cup so you can try all the 5 different teas, and you also take home a souvenir mug of the museum!

Izzy Lin — Google review

So, at face value, the tickets seem a bit pricey for what might be a cheesy experience—but the hour you will spend going through the experience they offer is worth it! Take a walk back through the Boston Tea Party event with talented and interactive actors and learn new things about this country’s history unless you are already a deep history buff—and even then you might learn something new, even if just a new perspective! The snacks were tasty and the gift shop had a nice offering of different items for all budgets. Make sure and schedule your reservation ahead and show up about 15 min early.

Jen W — Google review

Really great tour / show. Great value for money. Must do when visiting Boston. Also enjoy their tea room where you can taste the 5 teas that were thrown over board and inexpensive soups, sandwiches and homemade cookies.

Grace B — Google review

As a history buff, I was so excited to visit. The staff were friendly. The price did not match the experience for me. The only thing I learned was that the building does not stand in the location where the event actually happened. It was nice to walk in a replica of the ship that was part of the event. In addition there is no actual tea dumping. If you do not know anything about the event then I would recommend it.

Kimberly Orellana — Google review

It was a wonderful interactive experience. The staff/characters were fantastic and made the experience all the better. Bringing History alive the way the Boston Tea Party Ship Museum does is a great way to learn about history. Being able to take part in the "town meeting" and "throwing tea" overboard was a real highlight. Keep up the great work team Huzzah!

Mary-Elizabeth McCarroll — Google review

It was a nice interactive experience to visit the place, along with family and guests from Canada. The historical characters and events, like throwing tea, are narrated innovatively, as if live. I was assigned as Henry Prentiss, a merchant, operating a shop near Boston Massacre venue Abigail's Tea Room and the tour of the various sections of the ship was fantastic. The tickets are expensive; being part of American Independence history should be subsidized to induce interest in the young generation.

*If my review is helpful, please click on "Like" 👍🏾 and follow my account. Thank you!*We had an unplanned visit to the museum - we actually just wanted to see where the Boston Tea Party happened, and stumbled upon this museum! There's a tour that takes about 45 minutes, but completely worth it - you get the full history of why the Boston Tea Party happened, the events leading up to it, and why it was important to the American Revolution. It's a combination of re-enactment, movies and some other cool tech stuff. You also get to throw some boxes of tea into the harbor! Kids had a great time, and so did we!

Sudeep Ross (TamilRascal) — Google review

This place was AMAZING.Not only is there a fantastic performance, you have the interactive portion where visitors get to throw tea into the harbor, there’s informative re-enactments, and ACTUAL pieces of history preserved at this amazing museum. 10/10 across the board.Honestly the price is phenomenal for the experience.Shout out to the performers of the 2:30 session on Friday. They were engaging, fun, entertaining, and seemed so passionate. We had an amazing time! What an excellent start to our trip in the city.

Samm Bracey — Google review

All i could say is that the fee you pay here is totally worth it! Experience for yourself to be more patriotic and see how america has started. Has a restaurant inside. No parking. Not really a stroller friendly place. Accepts credit/debit. Has a souvenir shop too. Buy your ticket in advance for convenience, they could move you earlier or later as long as the crowd allows, they are really accommodating.

What an awesome experience for our group of seven! All our children enjoyed it and the hour was well worth the price of admission. Highly recommend for families and those young at heart!😊

The North End is a section of Boston known as Little Italy with narrow streets and some of the city's oldest buildings. It is part of the Freedom Trail where tourists can visit sites like the Paul Revere House and Old North Church, both significant during the Revolutionary War. The area is filled with Italian restaurants, coffee shops, pastry shops, and delis along lively Hanover Street. The historic neighborhood is at the heart of Boston's Italian community where one will hear both Italian and Boston accents spoken.

Aquarium

Zoos & Aquariums

This aquarium is a huge attraction with an amazing glass tank that spirals. It has different habitats for marine life including the Caribbean reef, and there are also seals and sharks on display. There is also a Giant Ocean Tank where you can see coral and fish.

We went on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy but, decent room to move around. The concept of the enormous single tank with a wrap around spiral is pretty cool. As you walk up each level has additional tanks and exhibits around. Nice to see a giant octopus on exhibit, definitely my favorite. Some cool infographics around, geared more towards conservation rather than just stats. Nice to see the creatures with large areas of space to live. The penguins have a lot of space and the open air exhibit is unique at least in the aquariums I've visited. Definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area and enjoy sea life.

Jayson Auterino — Google review

Overall, this is a really nice aquarium. The primary wow factor is realizing it's virtually all contained in one large atrium with a spiral walkway up the center and an open-air penguin exhibit across the entire bottom of the room. I love penguins, so being able to see them up close and from slightly above with no glass between us was really fascinating. I also loved the seal and sea lion exhibits being outside (yet covered). It adds a more natural feel to the area, which I'm sure the animals enjoy.I think my only complaint would be that it seems a little small for the ticket price, especially compared to other aquariums across the country. If you purchase a combo pass with other attractions, I'm sure it's a better value. However, all that being said, I was impressed with the number of displays they were able to fit into the space. They made good use of the building's height. I could have probably spent hours watching the center tank - especially the giant sea turtle!

Zoe O'Haillin-Berne — Google review

The aquarium is quite compact and spans over 4 floors upwards, centered by a huge round middle tank. Its very easy to navigate and the amount of fish and other creatures is amazing. I do recommend going in the week if possible as I went on a Sunday and it was incredibly busy.

Des — Google review

A super fun aquarium although it was a bit crowded, we went during the winter holiday season though so that is to be expected. Lots of interesting animals and things to look at. We did run into some trouble because we bought entry tickets and we got there early and were told we could come back around 10 minutes prior to our entry time but when we came back we were told to wait until our exact entry time. I would recommend getting tickets a couple days in advance and picking a time you know you will be able to go in.

Bea Moldow — Google review

My wife and I love going to museums, zoos, and aquariums. It's very peaceful and captivating in the aquarium. Perfect mix of education and wonder. Loved that they had lockers to store our stuff while we explore. Highly recommend this place. Great way to spend 2 to 3 hours especially if you enjoy taking photos

Steve Dyer — Google review

This place is fantastic, my niece and nephew loved it. They loved seeing the penguins and how they interact with each other. The sea lions were very cool to look at. The central tank is amazing with many different types of fish and large turtles, it is like a mini reef. I also liked seeing the bioluminescent jellyfish and fish. The fish and other animals were very easy to spot within the exhibit. The information next to the exhibit was good to read. I hope this place continues to flourish for many years to come.

Chintan G — Google review

A fantastic aquarium and easily walkable from our hotel. We came here in the afternoon after doing a Duck Tour in the morning. We have been several times and my husband and I agree that the penguin exhibit at the entrance is the most memorable aquarium entrance we both remember. It is worth walking the four floors up and then following the huge tank down the ramp in the middle of the museum. We also enjoyed the sea lion area outdoors.

Jake and Alison Foley — Google review

Gorgeous aquarium with an amazing pillar tank housing a spiral ramp to ascend levels. Fun Penguins play at the base while the iconic whale skeleton looms over head. The outdoor sea lion show is fun for the kids along with a "touching tank" of stingrays ain't tiny sharks. Clean and easily accessible this aquarium will not disappoint. Buy your tickets by appointment online and it is smooth sailing upon arrival. Parking is relatively close with a small walk along the harbor to the aquarium. Great family fun and memorable experience.

Kurt P — Google review

Great aquarium experience! There is a massive center aquarium with a walkway that goes around it, and then several floors of smaller aquariums, and a penguin habitat at the bottom. We had a great time there, spending most of the morning there. It's not the biggest aquarium, but it's well set up.Next time we're in Boston, we'll be back here.

Gravel Rider — Google review

this is an adorable aquarium! we loved the fish, the penguins, and the sea lions. the giant turtles were also really cool. the gift shop is full of really cute souvenirs, especially their “respect the locals” sea creature tshirt. the staff were so kind and friendly, it’s easily to tell they’re happy with the work they do!

Meghan — Google review

Ordered tickets online, was able to by pass line outside, and went right in. So much to see. The touch tanks are very cool. My kids love it here, we have been 3 times, and would definitely come again. Highly recommend!

Carla Smith-Moore — Google review

Overall a great experience! The octopus was the highlight of our trip - he was super active while we were there. Gift shop had a nice selection of items and all of the staff were super friendly. Giving it 4 stars because honestly it’s kind of a small aquarium compared to others I’ve been to. Lots of walking to each floor for not a ton of exhibits (especially the top floor). Nearby parking a garage is super close at least and not too long of a walk.

Ash C — Google review

Took the kids on a day they had off school expecting it to be VERY crowded, but it wasn't. This was most likely due to COVID capacity restrictions, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. We were able to stroll through easily and there was almost no wait to look at all the things we wanted. More places to sit down on the upper floors would be helpful; little feet get tired quickly. The gift shop and food court were reasonable.

Crystal Kirkirt — Google review

Three stars as I went with great expectations. I expected the aquarium to be big, have shows and more exhibits. After been to sea world, I was expecting to see more interactive programs that educate about marine life, how it's in danger and more variety of the marine life. It's good but not great. Approx. 2-3 hours are sufficient to cover entire aquarium with a break for snacks at a very relaxed pace.

Nish*th Jain — Google review

Amazing aquarium! The exhibits are beautiful and educational, and the aquatic life is so diverse. The staff truly makes this place inviting and there is plenty of space full of nooks and crannies with different wildlife and viewpoints.Word of warning, buy your tickets in advance for a quick and easy entrance.Second word of warning, if you are a guest and you can't live without a cigarette, then leave, don't find some hidden corner of the aquarium and light up thinking no one can see you or smell your stink - it's rude to everyone else attending, and it's rude to the employees.

Erik Ross — Google review

I love aquariums and I think they do a great job at this one! The ticket agents monitor how many tickets get sold so that the place isn’t overly crowded. We went on Veterans Day so there were a lot of family’s and kids but it wasn’t over the top because of the monitoring. The shark and ray touch tank is temporarily closed so keep that in mind.

Michelle Case — Google review

The first time I came to this place I was about 14 years old and I know this place had more animals to see. I remember we when downstairs and walk to the other side to get back upstairs wild we see all the animals. It is less now. This time I when with my kids and we first when to the so call movie. The ticket for the movie was about the same price of the tickets from the movie theaters but this so called movie was 20 mins. Yea it is 3D but the price is crazy and the price for the parking too. I had a good time because I was with my kids and they enjoyed. That’s all it matters.

Edwin M Santiago Rivera (Pollanko) — Google review

The New England Aquarium is a great place for all ages. You can see lots of cool fish and even touch some in the tanks. The big tank with fish and turtles is awesome. They teach you about taking care of the ocean too. Tickets can be pricey, but it's worth it for all the cool stuff you see. The citypass include the aquarium, combined with other attractions may be a little cheaper option. The staff is friendly and helpful, making it a fun day out. My experience was about 90 minutes and totally worth it.

Valek — Google review

A beautiful aquarium. With hundreds of animal species such as fish, turtles, penguins, stingrays, seahorses, among others.A pleasant walk for families and for everyone who likes animals. The sea lions show is a lot of fun. The aquarium with the electric eel is very interesting and plays in a playful way when it is discharging electricity.

Leandro Wanderley Couto da Silva — Google review

AWESOME experience. The big tank in the middle is the best attraction. They have huge sea turtles and so many kinds of fish.It was really cool to see scuba divers feeding the fish and the tank.2 down sides:We didn't find Nemo (did find Dory though)We wish there was a nibble tank like most aquariums have.Great experience overall. The staff were very nice and the cafe had options.

Daniel Verrier — Google review

Awesome place! Highly recommend coming as early as you can and see the penguins during feeding time! You can spend an hour or two, and then grab lunch at one of the many dockside restaurants in the area. The variety of wildlife is awesome to see. The massive tank is mesmerizing.

Museums

The Peabody Essex Museum is one of the most famous and respected museums in the world, home to a vast collection of art from all around the world. The museum has rotating exhibits that span traditional and contemporary art, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Salem.

The exhibits were amazing to look at. So many different things to learn and see. Different exhibits on different floors was great. Was stopping at the museum on my way through town. Employees were super helpful. The man working in the gift shop was super awesome in picking out gifts for family and friends. The Salem exhibit was interesting to learn about what happened many many years ago.

Janice Marfiz — Google review

We loved our afternoon at Peabody Essex Museum! We reserved tickets from our local library, and picked them up at the front desk. Very easy process. We ditched the map and just followed the twists and turns to see what was around the next corner. The Chinese House was stunning. A must visit! Definitely made our trip. We also loved the Native American wing and the Garden Atrium. Would definitely come back for a new exhibit!

Brianna B — Google review

Beautiful museum with a wide range of art and periods. The special exhibits are always interesting and unique, but there's also the on going exhibits displaying some classical pieces of art. There's a story behind every piece of art and PEM makes a good job telling that story with the information plaques adjacent to each piece. It is also in the heart of Salem so you can make a day trip out of it by visiting the museum and then exploring Salem.

Wonderful museum. The Chinese house is incredible.I loved the eclectic collection of artwork and history and nature. My daughter loved the kids area and artwork as well. The cafe has good food. And the gift shop is one of the best museum shops I’ve ever been too.The parking garage next door has very cheap parking. $1.25 an hour.

An incredibly variety of art and historical artifacts. Quite possibly the best museum I have ever visited. We were on a time constraint otherwise we probably could have spent the entire day in here. Looking forward to going back and seeing more!

Asa Shorkey — Google review

What a beautiful museum. I was particularly fascinated by the Native American exhibits. What a beautiful variety of pieces throughout history to today that gives you a better understanding of the history of America that we weren’t told in schools. Highly recommended- if you like museums, I’d plan for 4-5 hours. They say two, but we didn’t get through half of it in two hours. The arrangement is a little confusing, but I think it’s likely because the museum has just been added onto for years. That said, the staff were helpful!

Best thing in Salem. Daughter and I were disappointed in our visit to the city until we decided to visit this gem. So glad we did. We spent the entire afternoon here. Beautiful pieces. Friendly staff. The China house is amazing. Would visit again!

I absolutely loved our visit and wished we could have spent all day there. The Chinese house was a place of wonder!!! I loved the art installments. I will definitely be coming back during off season in Salem to spend a lot more time there.

Really lovely space- thoughtfully curated collections with something for everyone. The ground-floor collections are framed around themes instead of cultures, which creates an inclusive and nuanced voice one doesn't frequently see. The installation pieces were stunning experiences.Upper floor collections retain a more culturally-focused framing indicative of a colonial gaze, but there is a clear attempt to modernize. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable.Well worth the visit- in a city full of attractions, this stands out as a polished gem.

Lots of great exhibits. Most of the staff were very helpful except for the gentlemen at the front entrance. Well worth a visit. Expect to spend a good amount of time wandering through the many exhibits. A great resource.

Loved PEM! It's just the right size for a partial day excursion. The exhibits are eclectic and inclusive. The affordability is nearly unmatched for this area. 16 years and under are free. Adults $20. The total for myself and my 3 young teens...$20. The parking garage is just across the road and my parking fee was $2.50. I'm used to my parking fee in Boston being $24 for 3 hours, so this felt like a steal. I'll be recommending this to area families!

Shena Talbert — Google review

I'm so happy to see that the PEM has diversified their offerings. The cure t exhibits are stunning. My favorite element was music through 3 gallery installations. So wonderful to see and hear the art, when touching certainly isn't allowed. Looking forward to returning outside of October (Halloween madness makes me want to stay away next time).

Kristin Knowlton — Google review

I actually liked the PEM better than the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I was pleasantly surprised by its eclectic nature. The collections are powerful, thought-provoking and attractive. I would describe the spirit of this museum as joyful. Of course, my favorite piece was All the Flowers Are for Me.

Helena Andújar — Google review

It's a one time in a lifetime experience. I feel since the museum is in the heart of Salem. There should be more exhibitions on the witch trials. I loved that there were rooms with beautiful art. The museum is beautifully built and the gift shop was great. The food at the location was great, too. I was just disappointed that the exhibition for salem Witch trials was so dull. They only had like 3 rooms connected. They should have added color to match the theme of the trials to know and feel what it was like for the victims.

I'm a Salem resident and I am on a mission to tour all the local attractions, museums and places of relevance.About this one:The Peabody Essex museum is the oldest continuously running museum in the United States! With its permanent collection and temporary exhibits, it offers an eclectic variety of artifacts and art/design pieces. Its temporary exhibits in particular tend to often focus on matters of social equality and on environmental issues. It spreads through three floors and, even though it's not gigantic, it is a pretty big museum.PEM's jewel is definitely the Yin Yu Tang, a complete Chinese house originally built in the 1600s in southeastern China, moved to the museum and reconstructed as it was when the family last inhabited it in 1982. You can walk the courtyard and corridors, enter its furnished rooms, learn through the recorded audio guides. It is actually pretty amazing. It requires a timed reservation that I recommend to get online in advance. My favorite rooms are the Maritime Art one, the American Art exhibit ("Being and belonging in America") and the fashion and design display in the new wing.PEM is free for Salem residents and a constant source of new exhibits, workshops and events. If you are visiting Salem, PEM is a wonderful Museum to tour. Please keep in mind that the scope of its exhibitions goes way beyond Salem itself, as it shows artists from all around the world. If you are looking for something local, you should check out "Salem Stories" on the second floor, and a few art pieces and artifacts connected to the Salem Witch trials and to Salem architecture inside the American Art display that I mentioned above. They also sometimes offer temporary exhibits about Salem history, especially during tourist season.PROsThis is an amazing museum, very modern in the way things are presented to the public - in a way that is engaging and thought-provoking.CONsNo real cons to mention!Just, if you visit the Yin Yu Tang house during winter, be aware that it is COLD inside the house! Also, again a reminder that PEM is strongly connected to the local community but it is not a museum about Salem.

Local history museum

Museums

The Salem Witch Museum is a popular destination for tourists who want to learn more about the infamous witch trials that took place in the town in 1692. The museum has large and lighted exhibits that illustrate the story of the trials, as well as modern witchcraft practices, after the events.

Well they were definitely sold out of tour but the outside of this house is so unique! From another tour I was on the house has changed over the years, including paint color, location, and the stained glass details. Still, really neat!

Megan — Google review

My family and I expected maybe a little more for such a famous museum but it was still a good experience and history. The presentation is different and definitely not boring (if you have good imagination that is).Bought the tickets online only, it took about 3 to 5 minutes right at the entrance line.

Lost in the East Coast — Google review

From the seamless online ticketing process to the well-structured tour, everything was well organized and hassle-free.The museum's setup is unique and interactive. Upon arrival, everyone gathers in the first room, where you're seated and immersed in a captivating 360-degree show about the history of Salem. The visuals and narration transport you back in time, allowing you to experience the events firsthand. It's a remarkable 10-minute journey that sets the stage for the rest of the tour. After the show, the group is divided in half, with one group proceeding to the second part of the tour while the other explores the gift shop. I found this division to be a great way to manage the flow of visitors, ensuring everyone has a comfortable experience. The second part of the tour delves deeper into the Salem witch trials, providing additional insights and historical context. It was fascinating to learn about the individuals involved and the impact these events had on the community. What impressed me most was how efficiently the entire experience was conducted. Despite covering a significant amount of information, the tour was completed in less than an hour, making it perfect for those with limited time. This concise format allows you to absorb the key aspects of Salem's history without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.Regarding the gift shop, I found it to be decent, but I would recommend checking out the Witch City Mall for a wider selection of souvenirs and mementos. However, the museum's gift shop does offer a good range of items related to the Salem witch trials, ensuring you can take a piece of history home with you.

Donna B — Google review

The historical information that this museum provides is great. I learned a lot while visiting. It’s definitely not a “modern” presentation, though. They still utilize mannequins staged in several different dioramas to tell the stories. I recommend getting your tickets online and choosing your time so that you’re not waiting. The gift shop is extensive and has all the witchy souvenirs you can think of. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and I’m glad we made this a stop off while in Salem.

Norma Arnold — Google review

It’s an interesting display and show that allows visitors to understand a little bit more of what happened during the witch trials. If you’ve read or watched The Crucible or are familiar with the history, there’s not really much for you here. There’s no photos or filming allowed insideI’m not sure I would call this a museum, as there’s only one exhibit, sort of. That being said, I’d still visit if I was here for the first time, but I can understand people that feel like this is a tourist trapI recommend buying tickets in advance particularly during October. They sell on midnight each day through the website during the month

Franco — Google review

Buy tickets in advance to ensure you get to experience the show. In the first room, make sure you sit in the MIDDLE. If you can’t sit in the middle, the right side of the room would be the next best option. You have to rotate in your seat to see each diorama(wax figure displays). You go into two different rooms to listen to a recorded explanation of the origin of the witch trials. Half of the group moves to the second room and the other half has to wait 10-15 minutes in the gift shop. The gift shop is priced like most gift shops. Paid $32 for a t-shirt.

Adam Eaton — Google review

It was a cool visit, though I don't think I'd go again. I wouldn't say it's worth $17.50 a person. If you do go, sit on the stools as it's much easier to turn for the 360 show. Not a bad experience but definitely not a traditional museum or a very long visit, maybe 45 minutes total.

Katie K — Google review

A great top to cool off on a hot day and learn a little something. There are two rooms you go into. The first is a big open room that is dark and with seating to watch the presentation. Around the room and elevated are different scenes from the history of the witch trials. The second room talks about the history of witches.

graham forde — Google review

I know that everyone wants to visit the witch museum when visiting Salem, but honestly I don't think it is an experience worth paying for. The manikins look like they were made in 1692 and never updated. The audio sounds like something from a 60's B rated sci Fi flick and the story is something you could just get from a YouTube video for free. Just go sit in the common and watch any video online about a witch story from the time. Not to mention that the presentation is made so if you are sitting on one of the walls you won't be able to see the part that is highlighted during the story right above where you are seated. If you are seated in the center you can view the story that is highlighted on turns on a 360 rotation one at a time if you turn around as the room doesn't.After the first room they take you in turns (meaning in 2 groups) to a smaller room to hear another audio tour. At least the sound on this one is a bit better. Again lots of outdated decorations and a wall full with things to read (the timeline of the story) but no time to read them as you are brought into the room to hear the audio tour and then told to move along to see other outdated decorations in the room. Then at the end you are lead into the gift shop to buy stuff. So basically you pay to enter a store.Having done it once, I would tell friends visiting me, that this is definitely not worth paying for. Maybe if it was free and you wanted to sit for a while, but you can't go in when you want to, so my recommendation is, skip it.

Chris “BostonGreekGeek” Vaxevanis — Google review

The museum is amazing. Although some of the biggest complaints were how outdated the 1st presentation is, I personally enjoyed it. It isn’t what we know is “factually” correct as far as what caused the girls’ hysteria, however the audio is older and tells the story from the perspective of the time. The second half of the presentation did feel rushed, but there’s a lot of information to cover in a small amount of time. I loved it and I loved the history. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Jessica Robinson — Google review

Was alot of fun when we went! I would definitely check it out if your interested whichy vibes and doing the witch walk for fun, or if you're interested in the Salem witch trial and actual history! The gift shop was fun too! full of neat stuff , we enjoy the whole experience!

Amanda Wertsbaugh — Google review

The Salem Witch Museum is a beautiful building. The actual tour is just OK compared to everything else offered in Salem Massachusetts. My teens enjoyed it, but were quickly done and ready to go on to the next thing. When sitting, be prepared to have to do a 360 turn. The round stools look easier than the benches were. When we visited tickets were only able to be purchased online with specific entry times.

MIMI B — Google review

The building was very cool and the staff was friendly. The museum wasn't what I expected or hoped for but I'm still glad I went. I wish there would have been more things to look at. The gift shop was nice.

Maddie Mayfield — Google review

Nice place to visit and learn what happened in during the Salem Witch trials. It's listed as an hour but really is closer to a 35 minute tour with voice overs and mannequins to explain what happened. It can feel rushed for the price a family will play and that was the only reason for the 4 vs 5 star rating.

Jon Testa — Google review

The museum is a tourist spot and is outdated. I feel the museum definitely needs to change something to keep customers returning. I'm surprised they don't offer any additional services such as walking tour or live action play. The gift shop has many awesome gifts. I don't regret going to the museum, but it's still the same thing from 15 years ago. I will not go back next year unless if they offer something different.

Kristin Brown — Google review

Wonderful experience museum that has not changed much over the last 30 years since attending this exhibit at an elementary school student on a field trip.Do not expect a “museum” atmosphere but more of a story telling exhibit with statues and recorded commentary.Great place to start a visit to Salem to learn the history of the witch trials and injustices that these accused faced.Amazing educational opportunity for young and old alike!

Manuel Cordeiro — Google review

The building is neat. The idea is very fun! There isn't much to do!!!! The museum consists of 2 areas to view with audio information. Then, you go into the gift shop. I would love to have a little more to see.

Victoria J. — Google review

I really enjoyed the presentation and tour at the Salem Witch Museum. I bought my ticket on line and was able to go right in. There was a small group of about 15 people. We were brought into a room with several attractions. There was plenty of room for us to sit and see everything. After, they bring you into another room and go over the history of witches. You are then let out in the gift shop. Perfect opportunity to purchase books, mugs, and shirts.

Tammy N — Google review

You definitely get an overview of what happened with some neat scenes in the main theater. Your tour starts in the main theater (you can sit anywhere and it's fine). Second, is another presentation in a smaller room from a guide which you can tour after the talk. Then you can browse the gift shop. They have a good selection in the gift shop. The museum is worth the visit. Very glad we went.

Mark Money — Google review

Was not worth the price we paid to get in. For my self husband and daughter it was $50. You were escorted into a large room that is dark, and there’s a story that plays that lights up each section of the story. The mannequins you can tell they were old. If you aren’t sitting in the middle you won’t be able to see all of the light up sections. We were sitting on the side wall and ended up not being able to see the sections behind us.My 7 year old daughter didn’t really care for it. After the first tour we were escorted into the gift shop while the tour that went in front of us is in the second part of the tour. So we had to wait into the gift shop until the other group left the one room. My daughter said the best part of the tour was the gift shop that she was able to get a spell book from.It is not stroller accessible. You have to climb up 7 small steps. We had to carry the baby stroller up those steps, down another set of steps and back up another set. And not handicap accessible that I could see. I guess for not being there ever it’s a cool thing to do, but I won’t be a repeat customer. It’s something you do once and call it good.

Sights & Landmarks

Located in Salem, Massachusetts, the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion was built by sea captain John Turner in 1668 and inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel, The House of the Seven Gables. The house is a well-preserved example of early seventeenth century New England architecture and features seven gabled roofs and classical facade.

Very nice tour of the house that inspired Hawthorne's book. The docent was knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was a bit expensive but the care they took keeping and restoring the facility was evident. Good for families and adults.

A must see stop if you're visiting historic Salem and want some great history of the colonial days. Absolutely beautifully restored homes from the famous novel and historic Salem. The tour is a must if you want to view the interior of the homes, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had answers for every question we could think of. I really thought it was cool that we got to go up the hidden staircase was super neat and unexpected. Well worth the money for the tour (it's the only way you can view the interior of the homes anyways).

Aaric Ray (aroc_ray) — Google review

We did the walking tour in the garden. The paid tour has times and we would've waited an hour and a half, so opted for the outside.Approx $15 a person for this part. Beautiful gardens. Very peaceful place and the view of the water was incredible.

Susan Thompson — Google review

Our guide was outstanding, she showed us The House of Seven Gables and explained its history so well. Getting to see the original structure (atic) the secret staircase, the reasons for the rooms and ceiling heights as well as the grounds was quite an experience. The Hawthorne house was also quite impressive with how they moved it to the property to save it from being turned into a parking lot. Honestly well worth your time if you're in Salem.

Jon Testa — Google review

This is an American classic! A settlement of historical importance of what would become the United States of America, before consolidation of such. The grounds were very nicely kept and several exhibits were there to visit while waiting for the "guided tour". The woman who guided us through the exhibit was extremely well versed in early (pre "USA") America. Probably not enjoyable for the very young, or the very mobility impaired! We were there on an early April weekday, the very busy summer crowds will surely require Patience and things to entertain the youngsters.

Wayne Gotcher — Google review

This was well laid out. The location had several historical buildings in the property, including the House of the Seven Gables and Nathaniel Hawthorne's birth home. You pay for a guided tour of the Seven Gables and then can go on self-guided tours of the others (one was not open when I was there) and the grounds. The tour guide was very informative. The grounds are beautiful. There is also a gift shop with several interesting things in it.

Tina DeCola — Google review

I love touring historical homes, and this one was fabulous. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very patient with those of us who really wanted to soak it in, especially with pictures. Everything about this historical home (and the grounds) was beautiful. This, along with The Daniel's House, made the trip to Salem worth it. Big Zero for the rest of Salem, which is just a big tourist trap, mainly for those interested in the occult.I took a ton of pictures, but I've only attached a few. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here!!!

Emily Weaver — Google review

It's one of the historical houses of old times. It's over advertised, as most of the places in the US. Unfortunately, very little remains from the original home as it was restored and modified according to the novel. If you just walk by yourself, it won't be really interesting. Tickets will be more expensive with the guide, but it's really worth it. We had an amazing guide. It's like you are watching a fairytale. He is a very talented one. Tour takes around 30 min. As he said, the price of every ticket goes to support the newly arrived immigrants in Salem. Still recommended to see!

Simply breathtaking! House was amazing and the tour was informative, captivating, and entertaining. Tour guide did an amazing job presenting the info I really can't say enough to praise the experience. Also had an 8 year old who thoroughly enjoyed the place, including the scavenger hunt! Well done and stunning house and grounds!

Amazing tour of a historic building in Salem, MA. We didn't buy tickets ahead of time, so when we walked in and paid, we were given a time to return to the building for the tour. The tour is very affordable and is open year-round. We visited in September 2022 and had an excellent experience. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and painted a very realistic picture of the history of the building in regards to the local area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We had a great time visiting. A few places were closed understandably given the time of year. Our guide Rebecca was wonderful sharing tidbits from the ye house's history throughout.

My three friends and I thoroughly enjoyed coming here. Great history and plenty of photos to take. The gift shop was super cute. And the views of the garden/property and water views were beautiful when we were there on 10/09/2022. I'm so glad we had this on our list of places to visit on our 3 day trip. We came all the way from Pennsylvania and had been planning this trip for 2 year's and had to wait because of Covid. We're all hoping to come again next year as well. Thank you to everyone working here. Everyone was so friendly and nice.I sure hope someone was okay, as we were leaving there was an ambulance, fire rescue and police there.

If you are a fan of history and Nathaniel Hawthorne, you will love this stop. The tour is a bit pricey, but if you are a fan of his work, you will enjoy every bit of this stop. Stroll the property, learn about the hidden stairwells and other surprises, and how the house grew to the House of the Seven Gables. We also learned how the house became a Settlement House. Again, if you love history or Nathaniel Hawthorne, this is worth it. If not, you may want to pass. I loved it!

Ellen Dunman — Google review

I really enjoyed this tour! We paid extra to go inside and it was very informative. Lots of great information. Warning, there is a very tight stairway your tour may pass through, but they may take you an alternate route if you ask.

Interesting facts and tidbits about this historic house and it's colorful past. Built in 1668 on Salem Harbor and surviving many owners and several architectural modifications, this National Historic Landmark is truly magnificent. I simply love the architecture of precolonial and colonial America, and if you do as well, it is truly a must-see.

Interesting museum. You can choose to either tour the gardens only or the gardens plus the inside of the houses for different price points.I visited during October in a weekday and had no issue getting tickets at the ticket booth. That being said, October is a crazy month in Salem and it’s recommended to buy tickets in advance if this is an attraction that really interests you

Would definitely go back. This place is well preserved, and the tour was excellent, although we got a little lost between spot 1 and 2. We did the grounds tour and visited the Hawthorne House. It's beautiful and pristine. The views were amazing, and my children enjoyed the games in the counting house. The gardens are beautiful, and early evening is a great time to visit.

Laura Vanderbeek (LaurelLeafLane) — Google review

I visited Salem for Halloween. This was my first stop. The tour is approximately 45 minutes long and contains lots of history. The tour relays all aspects of the family and house's history. Our tour guide did a good job discussing some of the more sensitive/controversial portions. You are lead through the house, which includes the original wings and the expansions. The tour includes low ceilings, stairs, and narrow stairwells. If you have issues with tight spaces there are a couple of rooms you may have to skip. The outside grounds and view of the harbor is beautiful. The tour was a good starting point for my evening in Salem.

John Prescod — Google review

Awesome piece of history. Took the guided tour so we can see the house and the grounds. Loved the architecture, and if those walls could talk I'm sure it would be interesting. Went with my wife and 2 kids (13&15) and we talked about it for hours. A must see.

Great historical visit. Lots of interesting details on the guided tour. Salem is very cute and it was nice to be there outside of the Halloween madness.

This was an amazing tour! My 11 and 12 year olds loved it too. There’s so much history and really cool things to see in this museum. Our tour guide, Louise, was great! Knowledgeable and nice-she led us through the house and kept the tour moving at a perfect pace. I never got bored and I never felt rushed. There is some really neat information! Everyone is friendly and nice and their gift shop is just perfect. Walking through Nathaniel Hawthorne’s house was pretty awesome too. Being an English teacher made this experience even better! I could see everything, in person, that I taught. If you need a tour, take this one!!! There are some surprises too!

The Jenney Interpretive Centre is a museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts that interprets the history of the town and its relationship to the larger United States. The exhibits explore such topics as the abolitionist movement and Underground railroad stations that were located in Plymouth. Admission to the centre is free.

The tour guided by Leo was phenomenal! I recommend that everyone visiting Plymouth should book with the Jenney for the history tour. For only $25 per person this is a no brainer to book for your visit!

If you are in Plymouth, don’t miss out on the best historical walking tour you will ever take. We enjoyed two wonderful tours around Plymouth from Leo Martin. Guided Tours are only $25 . Plymouth walking tours,National Monument of Forefathers tours (this one is highly rated by Kirk Cameron who has the MONUMENTAL movie/ dvd). Well stocked on books with our founding father's and mother's values and view points, and also a variety of books and games from colonial as well as more modern for kids. A variety of local snacks and small jar delights, as well as souvenir Magnets, bookmarks, etc.

We are giving it 5 starsCouples/May 20Plymouth's best kept secret!Come here with an open mind if you are interested in hearing the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about our nation's Godly heritage that we so seldom have an opportunity to hear.My husband and I recently had the pleasure of meeting Leo and his lovely wife, Nancy, while in Plymouth/New England. We enjoyed visiting many of our nation's fascinating historical sites while in the region, but Leo's "Discovering Plymouth's History" presentation was a highlight, if not THE highlight of our vacation!! It was so refreshing to hear the unbiased, WELL DOCUMENTED, unopinionated truth about our nation's Christian roots. We were in such awe of his knowledge, we would have listened to every presentation and tour he had to offer had time permitted. My husband and I are extremely grateful to Leo for the bold stand he takes every day to proclaim the truth-regardless of the backlash! I think that the same Spirit that guided the Pilgrims here in the first place is alive and well in this kind and courageous man!

Leanna Dunn — Google review

You can book historical tours through their website and they are well worth it. We did the 90 minute walk covering the history of the city and we were quite pleased with what we saw and how knowledgeable Leo was because we learned a lot. He was engaging and friendly and really added to the experience. Well worth your time if you want to learn about the area.

The Jenney Museum's monument tour was the highlight of our family's visit to Plymouth. And their walking tour was so great we did it twice, once ourselves and then later with friends. We learned so much. Leo does all the tours and he is fantastic. Don't miss these! Leo is the best resource here, if you want to learn about the Pilgrims and what they stood for.

Alisa Evans — Google review

Worth every penny! Such great information about the TRUTH of the pilgrims. They came for freedom of religion and were led by God! What powerful truths Leo shares. It resounded in my heart! I left wanting to be a better mother, wife, scripture reader and improve my relationship with the Savior and my Heavenly Father! I loved Leo sharing the information about the Monument to the Founding Fathers.

If you stop at Plymouth and want to learn anything about the Pilgrims you must take one of Leo Martin's walking tours. He is amazing and so knowledgeable. Wish they would teach this in school. Learned so much. Take the whole family or just go yourself. Do not pass up this opportunity.

Phenomenal tour, wonderful guide!!!Our group of 9 had adults and kids (11-14) who all left with a very different view of the Pilgrims than we came with. Truly exceptional!!!

Nature & Parks

Atlantic Ocean swim area with day-rate & metered parking, bathhouses, an RV park & event facilities.

This is a good beach for locals or vacationers as it's usually well kept. There's an assortment of shoppes open in the summer and enough activities to spend the day here. The beach is beautiful in winter, the sunrises are just as stunning in February as they are in July. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but there are definitely better areas 20-30 minutes away in Maine. If you happen to be visiting between May-August the center of sea creatures in worth a visit. Located on the beach, it's a small building with a one-way walking loop inside. There are touch tanks and more information than most can digest in a single visit. The staff are very passionate about their studies as most are undergrads working for the summer. The beach shoppes are what you'd find at pretty much every other recognized beach / pier area. Toys and summer clothes are available for a higher cost.If you're 21+ Bernie's Beach Bar is a great place to spend a (probably drunken) evening and night. They have a live showing venue on the second floor with a few mini bars, then a connecting deck with a full bar. We came July 2022 to see Lil Jon and some local artists perform. Not a good place to bring a 'pack of smokes' though, they do a decent search at the door and got mine from the inner seam of my wallet. Oops!

Very nice beach...great wave action and on particularly good days is popular with surfers! Almost like two beaches actually-- sandy and great for swimming to the south, and rocky and made for exploring to the north. Sidenote: very, very popular for walking dogs...I like dogs as much as the next person though like happens so many place they get a bad rep b/c of inconsiderate owners who don't pick-up after them.

Dan H. — Google review

Visiting this park in the off season is a very pleasant experience. There are no parking fees. Dogs are welcome on the enormous sandy beach. Two of the three restrooms are open. The size of the playground is so large, and the equipment is so colorful, that if I were a child, I'd consider it an amusem*nt park .

Jim Giddings — Google review

A great beach in the summer!Activities, concerts, great seafood, bustling boardwalk!I particularly enjoy the off season.... The horses are able to walk along the oceanYou can also walk your dog on the beach. The tides are also higher this time of year.Love being able to spend time at Hampton Beach...any time of the year!

Hampton Beach State Park is a fantastic coastal destination. The beach itself is expansive and clean, with soft sands and picturesque views of the ocean. The park offers ample amenities, including clean restrooms and outdoor showers to rinse off the saltwater. The well-maintained boardwalk is lined with shops, eateries, and entertainment options, creating a lively atmosphere. Lifeguards provide an added sense of safety, making it a family-friendly spot. Whether you're into sunbathing, swimming, or simply strolling along the shore, Hampton Beach State Park offers a wonderful beach experience for visitors of all ages.

Massachusetts Senior Skip night was handled very well by the Hampton Beach and surrounding area police departments. We grew up coming to Hampton Beach from Maine, and the kids involved were vile and disrespectful. Thank you Hampton, please stay safe. We will continue to help support your town and townspeople. Massachusetts, I am sure you taught your children better, and I am sad these are the times we are living in. I do realize the kids have been locked up with Covid for more than 2 years and have a lot of steam to blow off.

Beautiful beach in the New England area, in New Hampshire. Never expected to see such nice sands and water in the North but the place is amazing. These pics were taken on the 4th of July so expect a lot of people during bank holidays, other than those, it should be super nice.

Mario C. Torres — Google review

Scenic beach in the New England area. The cities of Concord and Manchester are nearby. This is a perfect summer destination to add to a New England itinerary, especially headed north to Maine. My itinerary started in Boston and ended in Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine. The Atlantic waters are cold even in the summer. The sunrise is something to behold. On the weekends and holidays, try to get here early for parking opportunities. If headed upstate New Hampshire the white mountains are a must see especially in the fall with the changing leaves.

Richard Grant — Google review

Hampton Beach is a classic New England seaside gem. The long stretch of sandy shoreline and the vibrant boardwalk offer something for everyone. The beach itself is clean and well-maintained, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, or taking a leisurely stroll along the water's edge. The views of the Atlantic Ocean are simply breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset. The lively boardwalk is packed with restaurants, shops, and amusem*nts, providing endless entertainment options. Whether you're craving seafood, ice cream, or souvenir shopping, you'll find it all here.Hampton Beach has a fantastic, family-friendly atmosphere, making it a wonderful destination for a day trip or a longer beach vacation. The combination of natural beauty and fun activities makes it a must-visit spot on the New England coast

Great beach in New Hampshire. But avoid going during winters. All beach facing restaurants are closed.

VEERAJ RAJPUT — Google review

I love coming out here every year and seeing the sand sculpting contest, the art work in them is insane! There is also some really good food and cute little shops to check out also! A little pricey but that's to be expected with the beach right there and everything else. Love also going to the deep sea fishing trip right up the road from here also! Absolutely amazing experience!

Jessica Tapp — Google review

This beach is so beautiful and love to visit. We had a family gathering and we all found the staff was very rude to each of us entering, shouldn’t have staff members working with people if they can’t be happy and welcoming. We are all guests and should be welcomed with kindness. We are NH residents and very disappointed in our states choice of staff.

Jennifer Sullivan (JenStar) — Google review

Love coming here. We came during the end of hurricane Lee because we're nuts lol Most of the stores and restaurants were closed but we kind of expected that. My husband and I ate at the Sea Ketch. Delicious! and we got to watch the beautiful scenery 😁

It is wonderful path in the middle of the city. The flowers are just so beautiful and it makes the walk around there worthwhile. You can see also go in the water as there is a mini beach version of it.You can walk to the rocks and enjoy the view of the water. Ample parking available on the street. The most amusing things is that you can see the bridge open for boats to cross which causes traffic but it's nice to watch.Well maintained and definitely worth stopping here for the walk!

Local history museum

Sights & Landmarks

The Strawbery Banke Museum is a living-history museum spread over 10 acres, showcasing various buildings, gardens and crafts from different periods. It features around 40 buildings, including the Pitt Tavern and Goodwin Mansion that reflect the American revolutionary sentiment and Portsmouth's most prosperous time respectively. The Abbott's Little Corner Store from 1943 is another highlight of this eclectic museum.

This was a major surprise and treat for my wife, mother-in-law and myself. We enjoyed coming here and seeing the history of this area over 5 centuries. We walked around for about 3 hours taking it all in and just submerging ourselves in the past. They have done an amazing job preserving and restoring these homes and buildings. It really gave you a sense of what life was actually like in the different time periods. If you are ever in the area or thinking about coming, this place is a must do!!! Also, say hi to Mrs. Tucker when your there.

Still working to present the truth. Learning from history and progressive understanding of Strawberry Banke early Portsmouth settlement happens here. Always improving. Need for more honesty and Integrity Always. All of us. Sum of Us.

This is a great historical park, with period buildings that describe what life was like in another era. Staff is in dress costume to match the time and are very good talking about what occured in the early days of America. In the winter, there is a skating park. Easy walk to shops and restaurants afterward. I thought the day spent there was lovely.

Theresa St. John — Google review

Nice enough open museum for walking around and seeing historic homes. Also nice for learning a bit about the area. I thought it was a bit spendy but know they're using that money for more restoration so it's understandable. If you like historic homes you'll love it. The gardens were also pretty.

Lisa Notman — Google review

Beautifully upkept part of history. Really takes you back in time. All the staff are well educated on the history; it's fascinating to talk to people to capture what times back then were really like. Your admission is good for two days and I fully took advantage of that because there was much to explore. I'll be coming back next year. Highly recommend.

Lisa Giroux — Google review

Strawbery Banke is the absolute best. The folks that work there are clearly so passionate about Portsmouth history and they put on the most spectacular events. Our favorite is Ghosts on the Banke, which is just magic. We also recently visited for the Heritage Breeds baby animals day and it was so adorable. Lots of space and grass for kids to run around, explore, and burn some energy. But also really calm and peaceful.

Meredith V — Google review

I hadn't walked through here since my kids were younger. The tour for the buildings wasn't open but they had the main building open for skating. We didn't skate but it was a nice walk through with all the lights. I definately recommend a walk through any time of the year.

April Ingram — Google review

Unexpected historical sight smack dab in the middle of town! We were shocked when we suddenly were in the parking lot.Houses are super interesting and restored to different eras. I especially loved the corner store restored to 1945; I don't often see that era represented in living history. On the day we went there were only 2 actors but they were both fabulous. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. And as people have mentioned, the gardens alone are worth the trip. The Victorian children's garden is particularly delightful.

Hannah Long — Google review

Very cool museum take you back in time, and Charles, was Absolutely great person for the one house. So passionate and very knowledgeable on what went on. Then went to the grocery store. As you walk into the store you hear someone talk not sure where it's from and then you see the lady behind the counter. She was excellent too. Great choices for those 2 houses those people were great. Made the hole visit. Don't forget to by Charles book in the gift area.

Rob Hatton — Google review

I love the history of the place. My favorite parts are the people you met that are "in character" and can tell you about the home, the land, and the shops. It's like being taken back in time. It makes it interactive and very interesting. It's a great place to take thy while family! I visit every summer.

Maria Behnke — Google review

This was a great Museum. It has free and ample parking. It is a good thing the ticket is good for two days as we closed the Museum and went to finish the next morning. There is a lot to see and learn. The people portraying people from the past are extremely good and don't break character.

Andrew Kelly — Google review

This is trip back in time. This place is rich with history. I can tell the entire area is well taken care of. Everyone who works here is friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the exhibits as much as the staff. This is a great place for children as well as adults. It's interesting to see how people lived throughout the years. I'm glad this has been able to be preserved us and future generations

Angie Kyle — Google review

Very cool experience that felt like we had gone back in time. You’ll get to tour an entire neighborhood of historic houses that have been preserved and there are a few employees acting in character from different time periods. We went to the corner store and learned how to get our food rations during WWII, we saw chickens, we learned how they cooked and what they ate in even earlier centuries, and we also got a simple demonstration on weaving! We even learned that in the taverns they used to pass around a bowl of rum for everyone to sip on!

Kristen Murphy — Google review

A decent way to spend 2 or 3 hours. Lots to see and read here. Many buildings have guides to tell you about the houses. Many historical periods from the 1700s to the 1950s were represented.A lot was geared to who lived in each of the houses and their belongs. A small portion of the work life was represented, ship building, a store, container making.I would have liked to learn about the buildings and homes of the Native Americans, but historians always skip the truth of this part of history. I did find one story online about Native Americans in Massachusetts who told of how settlers would find homes they thought were abandoned and take them over. The Native Americans were only off hunting or fishing and came home to find settlers living in their homes. This museum did have one small Native American exhibit, but it lacks the history of the people who lived here first, as well as the buildings and strictures created by them. Also, the local coastline was filled in to make some neighborhoods, and some neighborhoods now flood. They go on to state how climate change effects things. I found this part to be too much preaching and not what I come to a historical museum to see.The gift store closer to town was phenomenal, with many fantastic gifts and items to eat. Both traditional and modern types of gifts could be purchased. We tried the old style soda on this visit. They had fantastic gardens both flower and fruit and vegetables. Some bee hives a fountain and many beautiful out door spaces. We walked about 3 miles over 2 hours I. An out of the various buildings. We would have stayed longer, but a huge storm came in, and we headed off to a movie. Most of the paths are dirt, so wear comfortable clothing. Also, they appear to be remodeling some of the homes, so it may be worth a return trip if they keep investing in the place. Not every building is accessible as some are closed or private, and we could never see the best part of the house, the basem*nt. I would love to see the construction from below. But like all historical sites, they show the best and not a dirt dirt floor basem*nt with the fantastic understructeholding up the buildings.

Raymond Gordon — Google review

It has been a long time since I toured Strawberry Banke. It is obvious that a lot of good work has been done over the years! Portsmouth is lucky to have this institution. The homes and gardens preserved here are beautiful! We had beautiful weather the day of our visit, and yet there were not hordes of visitors. You should be able to talk to docents and tour houses without feeling rushed.Due to the condition of some of the properties, those with mold or dust allergies may want to take note!

Isabel Turk — Google review

Lovely place! So much history and they have tour guides at every house. The house with the flags are the ones that are opened. Some of the house are over 400 years old and they preserved it so nicely. The grocery store had 400 times which is a lot back then compared to 25000 8tems in the average grocery store today. All the staff are nice and friendly. They love to explain everything and tell us the history of the place. I would recommend at least 2 to 3 hours for a quick run. You might need 2 days if you want to see everything.

A quaint little sea side town. Sure, it’s mostly a tourist trap with all the shops, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t super fun and that I couldn’t find cute things. The smell of the ocean is amazing, and all the boats are amazing to watch folks work. Worth the visit. Plus, leads to the gorgeous Marginal Way.

Finally! I didn't have to be stuck in traffic in the summer to visit! I walked the Marginal Way trail from Stearns Rd, which isn't very far.Enjoyable short walk around the Cove and across the bridge. Nice views of the ocean 🌊 and the fishing 🎣 vessels. I'm not certain how much parking 🅿️ is, but, space is limited and there is a parking 🅿️ meter to pay. Public restrooms available.Restaurants and shoppes to check out. I only visited a cafe since my time was limited.Go off season, end 🔚 of April, to avoid the crowds and go early.

Located in Ogunquit, Maine, this beautiful white sand beach is a popular summer destination for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The soft sand is nearly sugary in texture and makes for a pleasant beach to relax on. Ogunquit Beach also features numerous vendors selling beach toys and beach gear as well as food stands that sell lobster rolls, fried clams, and burgers.

Very beautiful beach. We went on Saturday and it was packed.Unfortunately the restaurant was close 😕, so only ice-cream and shakes are available.Rest rooms were clean and housekeeping staff was cleaning the rest rooms regularly. We really appreciate there hard work.Parking fee is 25 dollars for whole day.I think Parking is close after 9 pm.Country side area around the beach is beautiful.Water on this beach is very cold.Overall our day was fantastic there.Hopefully we will be back soon.

Google Maps takes you to a private resort with no public access to the beach. You are going to have better success reaching the beach 🏖️ using Ogunquit Public Beach. If you walk from the public access, you might be able to get close to the spot where Google Maps says the beach is.Ogunquit Beach is great 👍! It connects to Footbridge Beach, which is also a great beach ⛱️. The tide 🌊 can be very high and space can disappear.Even on a warm day in February, there was a good crowd there.I like to visit even though the parking 🅿️ is expensive 🫰.

Visited the beach & Marginal Way on Sunday 2pm just before Memorial Day. Very crowded. I learnt through reviews to park at police station 20 Cottage road but it’s a small carpark and so full. I love this beach in the winter as much as the summer! Huge area when tide is low. Not much space for beaching when high tide. Amazing for walking. Lots of parking. Public bathrooms too! Close to center of town. Lots of shops around.

Frannie D. — Google review

Amazing beach. We travel a lot and we compare this one to Mayflower Beach in Cape Cod. Of course, water is cold so ocean water activities are limited, but this is Maine, so not subtracting one star for that. Absolutely bring inflatable for kids or teens to go up and down the river. When tide is going in, the river water is flowing in and kids can ride all the way from mouth of the river at ocean, under bridge, to sand flats, get out in right, then walk through parking lots back. When tide is going our, the flow reverses and they can ride back from last the bridge into the ocean. It’s a lot of fun for them! The beach is HUGE when tide is out. Almost too large haha looooong walk to the ocean, but gorgeous!Be there by 9 AM to find parking. We were on a cool not hot day, Saturday, partly clouded, but Labor Day weekend and we took one of the last 5 remaining spots at 9:20 AM. Beach is wonderful. Bring inflatables for the River.Subtracting one star as it is not possible to get out on main road after you are done with the beach. There are multiple converging roads and no street light. Traffic is at stand still and some have stop sight and others don’t, however, people ignore stop sign because otherwise they will never get out, and that intersection looks like the worst one I have ever seen with all cars in the middle of it congested driving in different directions.

Destination for restaurants, bars & entertainment, including comedy shows & live music, since 1898.

We love Old Orchard Beach. There were a few things open in April, but not much. It's worth mentioning, there aren't any public bathrooms open and neither are most of the restaurants. There were a few ice cream shops and a few other little trinket shops open. The pay and Park lots are also closed. There is limited amount of curbside parking and a few other places that have free parking. They do have 2 port-a-potties near the public bathroom if you're brave. Everything else opens May 1st. Regardless, the beach was wonderful as always.

This was our first time here. The walk out on the pier was crowded and entertaining! You can’t beat the ocean views. The restaurant had an extensive bar, no draft beer or bottles, only cans. I would say that is minor but my only fault we found. The atmosphere was beach like and old but it was not objectionable. The sliders were all open and there was aFantastic ocean breeze! Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Another thing we enjoyed is we did not feel rushed out after we were done. We had nachos and beer. The nachos were very good and the serving was large. We will definitely go back when in the area.

Beautiful views even in the winter. Beautiful boardwalk charm. Businesses were closed as expected. Still a nice place to take a walk by yourself or with your dog. Can't wait to visit in the summer

Jessica Bregoli — Google review

Bring cash if you want to use a restroom. If you're nasty, or cheap, the water the ocean is right below you. Water is cold even mid summer so plan accordingly for the cold water and ocean breeze. If you're old, sensitive to the cold or have trouble rewarming, I would go as far as bringing a couple blankets to help you retain heat as you try to rewarm. Don't go trying to die on the beach and ruin the vibe for everyone. That would be pretty selfish. Bring more cash (or plastic) to spend on all the overpriced souvenirs, amusem*nt, food & whatever else you want to throw it at. Right now, I saw parking near here between $25/day next to the beach or you can save yourself a little by walking a block or two for as low as $10/day for you thrifty types that don't mind walking 5 minutes or so. During the day the beach was very crowded even on a Tuesday. Around dinner time people start departing to go grab some grub and go elsewhere. Evening was much less crowded and enjoyable however the sun wasn't as warm so of course the water felt much cooler. Warning: this is at a beach, so you may see some people in significantly less clothes than you would like to see. Just be prepared because some things can't be unseen.

Fun evening with dinner and fireworks. The lobster and clam dinner was very good. We were able to sit at our table and watch the fireworks. The staff was friendly and professional. The live music was enjoyable.

Went in mid- September. The weather was great. They had a car show that weekend and the pier had a good crowd. Not everything was open, but enough to shop or dine. I love the rustic feel of it. People were friendly.

Susan White — Google review

Excellent service, accommodations on menu choices, delicious foods. Nice view. Maria was a fabulous and very kind waitperson.

I guess being on the pier where there are thousands of people, qualify of food would be lacking. I loved the location, but the food was definitely disappointing. I had a Ruben ( it was too dry and salty), and my spouse had buffalo wings ( i guess we can't expect too much outside Buffalo, but they were absolutely soggy)The best thing was the blueberry aleBlue paw by Sea dog- absolutely amazing! It's so light and refreshing with the perfect hint of blueberry

Haven't been here in over 22 years a lot sure has changed. Loved the Old Pier two or three restaurants and shops there. It was the tourist season so very crowded. A great area for families lots of amusem*nts, food stands, shops, arcades and of course 7 miles of sandy beach to enjoy the beautiful Maine coastline.

Diane Morrison — Google review

Bad service and OK food. Obviously the owner is already in Florida being a snow bird. Been to old orchard 10 times. First time trying this place. Better places to go. Hey to the owner tell your staff to pick up some cleaning products or maybe a vacuum instead of sitting down eating and drinking

My family and I recently went on a trip here on a recommendation made by my daughter. Seeing as the family I went with are from a different state and I had never been before, we were all pleasantly surprised to see that there were many activities for us to keep busy with. The beach was beautiful, while the water was shivering cold, once we got used to it we were able to make great memories here. The amusem*nt park was great, all the rides and games that were available was well worth the 2 hour car trip that we had to take to get there. There are many shops along the sidewalks, all of which are in close proximity to each other and are filled with souvenirs for everyone. One thing that I think could be improved is the pricing of the general area. The restaurant and shops, while nice in quality and quantity, have some truly ridiculously expensive items. My daughter and sister ordered two burgers with fries and wings, the total was over 70 dollars. The food was pretty good, but the wait time and pricing for it definitely was not worth it. Keep in mind, not all shops are like this, but you definitely need to go often to figure out which shops are best for certain items. I also think that the fact there are no free public rest rooms is a little ridiculous. The staff was very nice, but we had to pay 50 cents every time we needed to go to the bathroom. Some other restrooms were 75 cents. It may not seem like a lot, but for the amount of people in my family, thats about 7 dollars added to the trip. Again, it may not seem like much, but parking was 35 dollars,(later on in the night it was reduced to 20) over 70 for food, 30 for beach toys, (a bucket and shovel and umbrella) and about 20 for 3 ice creams which actually was the most reasonably priced thing here (the portions were ginormous!) Over all, the trip was enjoyed by everyone I had brought with me and was very relaxing. I would 100% recommend to someone and I plan on going again next year!

Awesome experience! Maria was an amazing waitress! It may not seem like much to most people but when I ask for water along with my drink she brought my wife one as well. Came back frequently enough to make sure we were taken care of. And when we got our loaded nachos she even went back to let the guys in the kitchen know that we were very impressed. And kudos to the bartender because they make one hell of a drink.

Chris Babbitt — Google review

Not your typical beach town Pier, at least from the ones we’ve been too. There’s all kinds of shops, sports bars and places to eat all on the actual pier itself, which was cool. FYI, the bathrooms are .75/ea to use, which we thought kind of strange. We walked all the way to the end of the pier, realized we were very hungry and we decided to order some food for dinner and sit sit out on the Sunset Deck of the Patio Pub at the end of the pier. Food is good, but is kind of pricey and portions are somewhat small. You’re basically paying for the atmosphere and the scenery. It’s a great place to people watch.

Museums

The Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine is a must-see for art enthusiasts. It features paintings and sculptures by famous American artists such as the Wyeths, Edward Hopper, Louise Nevelson, Rockwell Kent and Robert Indiana. The museum's collection spans 200 years of American art with a focus on artists who have lived or worked in Maine.

Worth it but don't expect all their collection to be on display. I went there specifically to see Katz's portrait of Rudy Burckhardt and was disappointed. The Porters more than made up for it.

W Pdgt — Google review

A little gem of a museum in mid-coast Maine. I enjoyed the Wyeth Every Leaf & Twig and the Louise Nevelson exhibit on 6th floor was excellent. Whilst it may be a "small" museum, the alternative is to fly to NYC or train to Boston to see something like this!

Mark Siladi — Google review

Great little spot for some quality art inspired by the area. We checked out YT grounds and the guest museum and the Andre Wyeth church. Person in the lobby was happy to share some personal history that makes the artist come alive. Take a leisurely stroll as we did not have the time as had to make a ferry. Fun anyways.

Kevin Markman — Google review

A great midcoast institution -- Maine punches above its weight, art wise and while the Farnsworth leans a little legacy / traditional, there's a lot to say there. A great building right in the middle of a great town. Visit the Wyeth collection in the adjacent church for sure.

Henry Quinn — Google review

Well worth the admission price. Loved the Hopper/Wyeth show and also Katz w/friends. The satellite church across the street has amazing architecture and the Wyeth watercolors were fabulous. Was hoping to see the Porters that another reviewer mentioned but they weren't up. Still had a great visit!

2024:small and charming. 45 minutes at a slow pace to cover the entire collection. 18 dollars per person.2020:A very nice collection. It is not large, but we'll worth the time. Took us about an hour to cover all three floors.

Julie's bites — Google review

$20 for two hours of Andrew Wyeth and Edward Hopper watercolors, other artworks are of course on display and we enjoyed two hours at this small museum. Well worth a visit

Andrea Goldbaum — Google review

I was very pleasantly surprised by the exhibits. Lots of variety and different from many museums. Excellent gift shop. Two buildings, one devoted to 3 generations of Wyeths. Definitely worth a visit.

Karen — Google review

Impressive curation of art representing regional and internationally-renowned artists. There are two buildings and 6 floors, so we did not get to see everything, but our group looks at art thoughtfully (and rather slowly), so it is possible to see it all in a day (if you’re efficient). Guests wear an entrance sticker and can exit to have lunch (many Rockland downtown area eateries in close walking distance) before returning to the museum. I was surprised by the extensive collection of quality art.

Jamie Sands — Google review

I've wanted to visit the Farnsworth for years, but the pandemic delayed my plans.I learned so much about Andrew Wyeth and Louise Nevelson today! The museum is very manageable and beautifully laid out and curated. I've finally visited the Farnsworth!

The Mount Battie Trail is a picturesque hiking path that stretches for about a mile and offers the perfect opportunity to see seasonal wildflowers. Although it is steep when starting from town, one can enjoy better views of the Penobscot Bay and Camden by taking the trail from Camden Hills State Park. The trail itself is stunning, with great views that provide a beautiful backdrop for hikers. It's also an excellent option for families with children who want to explore and experience nature together.

This is a solid tourist attraction. There are lots of options here for pretty much everyone. You can drive all the way to the top and there is easy access to the views from parking lot. Also there are bathrooms at the top which aren’t terrible. There are also options to hike all the way from the bottom, or various points a long the trail. It isn’t a hard trail, but there are a lot of rock scrambles, if rainy it could be pretty slick.

jason molidor — Google review

Steep from town...better to take trail from Camden Hills Staye Park. Great views of the PenobscotBay & Camden & beautiful trail!

Heather Mina — Google review

Beware: lots of rocks and roots most of the way up.

Katherine Melby — Google review

I will start this by saying this area is a state park. So there is a fee but it's not an arm and a leg. Also for those who like camping there is a campground at the base. That said, let's continue...Now two ways to get to the top of Mt. Battie. You can walk up, or you can be like me and drive up. I've done enough walking for the last 65 years:) Parking though will accommodate around 30 cars. And I'll be honest that's just a guess. So once you're up there you get one of the best views of Camden harbor and Rockland that you could ever ask for. Also there is a small observation tower you can go up to get an extended view. If you're lucky you can watch eagles sailing on the up draft and they float around for a bit.I would suggest bringing up a lawn chair. A lot of people don't and just walk around for a few minutes then leave. The best part is to sit and take it all in.So if you're up in the area stop by. You won't be disappointed.

State park

Sights & Landmarks

Fort Knox State Park is a historic site that features a 19th-century granite fort and a modern bridge with an impressive 420-ft. observation tower known as the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. This engineering marvel, which opened in 2006, spans over 2,120 feet and stands tall above the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the intriguing past of Fort Knox using informative signage throughout the park and enjoy scenic views from the top of the observatory.

This fort is EPIC 🤩🇺🇸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Best views of any Military installation on the East Coast. Fort George Washington is runner up 👌. Massive is size and scope, this fort is simply awe inspiring 😃. A must see if your visiting Maine …MUST SEE. Moving to Maine? call Liberty Bell Moving & Storage for packing and moving services

Liberty Bell Moving & Storage LLC — Google review

This state park is amazing and one of the coolest I’ve been too! Not just cool in the sense that it’s interesting but also cool as in cold when your inside the fort which is great on a hot day! This place makes a great summer time activity! When your inside the stone area’s of the fort are like air conditioning with a cool breeze! When visiting this park give yourself hours of time… there is a ton to see. Not to be missed are the open water batteries outside the fort. As you are walking to the fort there is one on the left and another just past the entrance. They have long descending stair cases that lead to multiple rooms that were used to heat cannonballs sufficiently enough to ignite wooden ships! So cool!Inside the fort there is a grassy inside area open to the air/sky and then the perimeter or enclosed area of the fort is all walkable , even the roof which is grassy. As you walk through there are these really cool hallway that ascend with steps . There are windows to your right and on your left there are different rooms you can walk into. Some were quarters for the workers to stay in or rooms that they would gather and eat. There is a display in one room showcasing how they produced gunpowder in the fort and even a huge bakery! Like i said there is enough to see to spend hours there! Bring your camera/phone , there are really cool photo opportunities and the fort it’s self is amazing to photograph as well! When your done at the fort head over to the Penobscot Narrows bridge and observatory! It’s the tallest bridge observatory open to the public in the world! A very cool experience! The bridge itself is a beautiful view but once you take the elevator up 420 feet you’ll have 360 degree views of the Penobscot bay area. Just don’t look down when you step of the elevator… yikes.. that’s a tough one for the stomach! It’s a long way down! They have viewing from all four walls that are entirely windows and there are great displays showing you all you are looking at, like the mountains, towns, rivers and the bay. Very cool and educational!I definitely recommend a visit and remember it’s a perfect thing to do on a hot day! Enjoy!

Really cool place to explore and such beautiful views. We went for Fright at the Fort. We drove 3.5 hours and unfortunately the haunt was canceled because of the recent shootings in Maine. But we still went and visited the Fort and explored the grounds. Some parts of the Fort is spooky all on its own. Maybe take the trip next year and try again.

Michelle Burdick — Google review

Well worth the trip. There are a lot of stairs and no lighting inside but it is an intriguing look into the past. The signage is very informative and the views are great. The gift shop is filled with interesting objects, books, and shirts. They are currently decorated for Halloween which is fun. There is plenty of parking. There is a beautiful park surrounding the fort with plenty of picnic tables.

Jen Diamond — Google review

Fascinating place. We just happened upon it while driving from Bar Harbor to Portland. The bridge is a true sight to see. Beautiful river view from a very high vantage point. We went up into the viewing tower and we’re rewarded with an expansive view of the valley. We then toured the fort and enjoyed the historical experience. This location was well restored and maintained.

Scott Hayes — Google review

Really cool experience! The observatory is the tallest in the world and an elevator ride up to the top. Awesome view. We stopped for the observatory and decided to also walk around the fort which, if in the area and you have time, you should do. It's a really cool fort and would be an awesome (and potentially disastrous) place to play hide and seek! Anyway, there are plaques of information at all the sites around the fort. You can walk the whole fort in around 1.5 hours with stops at all of the sites. It was cool to envision what it was like moving around the fort in the 1800s. My girls really enjoyed the rooms and space to run around in the center and on top. Really interesting place! Glad we stopped!

Megan Hall — Google review

Really cool walk through history you can take at your own pace. It was a foggy rainy day so the fort was nice and cool inside, but the tower offered really no view (we were warned of this but decided to go up anyways). Highly recommend stopping for a bit!

Thomas Connell — Google review

Unexpected stop from Acadia to Portland. Spent over an Hour and a half exploring the different chambers of this fort. Great for families to explore. Also went to the top of the bridge which had absolutely gorgeous 360 views of the area. Highly recommend.

Kelli Dureau — Google review

Took the Elevator to the observatory.. not as scary as I thought!! Nice views! Walked through the Fort afterwards. Very interesting! There were some Halloween decorations up for the scavenger hunt but we Diane participate.

Lorie Scovin — Google review

I went here on a last second decision and it is definitely a highlight of Maine. Beauty meets history in an incredible experience. You would be able to go for just the fort or the observation tower and still have an incredible time! All of the staff I interacted with were so nice and they had so much information to share. We went on a self guided tour and we were very pleased. Would recommend to anyone.

Joshua Farrington — Google review

A must visit!!! The observatory view is amazing and given the weather, we were able to see all the way down the river bank. The park is dog friendly, however the observatory does not allow pets. So, if you are traveling in a group, it is possible to take turns while the dog stays down stairs. My favorite portion is the fort itself. There is a path around the fort, plus 2 stairway entrances on the exterior (A and B) the view is incredible and with easily accessible chairs worth taking a rest at!

It's a great experience for all ages. Lots of steps, not wheelchair friendly. Most places back then weren't. Observatory has a breath taking 360° view.

Damian Buker — Google review

Must-see if you're in the area.Pay for the observatory and access to the fort is free. Very reasonable prices. We went up in the observatory first. The guides were very informative and welcoming. View was great. Wheelchair accessibleThe fort was amazing! You can wander at will and explore the tunnels.. You'll need a flashlight! We had a blast.Restrooms and gift shop available. Plenty of parking.

We just visited here with our daughter for her first visit, we’ve been multiple times but it’s always neat seeing the fort, I was very shocked to see they offer a homeschooling discount it really makes for an awesome school field trip, the facilities are in great shape and always seem really clean (most parks this isn’t the case) they also are fully stocked and handicapped accessible! The gift shop is great too! We always make sure to stop in and purchase a few trinkets!

Ashley Matthews — Google review

Great stop on our drive from Bar Harbor to Portland. The fort is great to walk around. The observatory is a must! The views were stunning! It was an amazing way to see the fall leaves.

Corinne Garcia — Google review

This park has a very inexpensive entry fee that covers both attractions. The bridge is beautiful and the views are spectacular from the observation tower. The fort is quite interesting in how it was built and its history. There are lots of places to explore inside and outside the fort making it a great place to spend a day.

David Horrigan — Google review

We went all the way to the top of the observatory. It's taller than the Statue of Liberty! The employees were knowledgeable and kind. At Fort Knox we were able to explore the whole thing! We loved seeing the ambulance and cannons inside.

Brandee Wheeler — Google review

I drove by this monument for decades, and I finally decided to visit. I'm so glad I did. The view from the 40-story bridge tower is fascinating. It's a 365 degree panorama. The fort evokes so many different feelings and emotions. Walking through the dark passages is eerie and standing next to the large canons is awesome! It's easy to lose track of your time soaking in the atmosphere!

Narrows Observatory, nestled amidst the picturesque beauty of Maine, offers and unparalleled experience for nature enthusiasts. Our visit to this gem left us in awe of the beauty of Maine. The bridge is an architectural marvel and we enjoyed learning about the history from the friendly staff who truly care about it. The panromantic views were spectacular especially due to the changing of leaves and you can see for miles on a clear day. The ticket price for entry for 4 people was $36 - a small investment for the priceless memory created. A must see!

I made it here after a long day’s road trip drive. It was cool and everything I imagined! Major thing was how there wasn’t a parking lot. I wondered what people do during the day when they arrive. I parked nearby and just moved my car after I was done snapping a few pictures.

I was told a must-see was the Paul Bunyan Statue in Bangor, Maine.A short trip by car from the charming downtown, we found him.Unfortunately, not easy to find a place to park to take the picture, for it is a busy intersection for one of the main highwaysIn any case, fun to see. .now want to read more about his tall tales.

Kathy Condon — Google review

We had to check out bih Paul on our first time ever to Bangor! I'm comparing this ole guy from my Minnesotan upbringing - home to many a handsome PB statue - and as a long-time listener of the tales. Also, as a reader/viewer of Stephen King stories while in Bangor, it was fun to imagine if this statue would come alive like in 🎈It!!

Jennifer Corley — Google review

This is a quirky statue that you would think you could only find in Maine, however, Paul Bunyan is in other cities as well. The Bangor version is quite high and seemingly randomly located next to a medical building. Why? I am not sure. But it can be fun to try to find him while on Main Street.

Delightfully creepy and odd, this is a brief must-see for fans of Stephen King's "It". We parked behind the Cross Insurance Center and walked around to the statue on a rainy Saturday. It's much bigger than you expect.

Joe Silber — Google review

It's just a fun stop while out seeing the sights in Bangor. Wish we could have gotten a picture with our truck in front of the statue, but unless you stop on the main road, there is not a good way to it. The area around the statue is clean and well kept.

Nancy Benton — Google review

Myself and a group of my coworkers arrived in Bangor, tired and late at night. The next morning we woke up to find ourselves in the heart of Stephen King's country. It was rainy and grey the next day, but that didn't stop any of us from wandering around. The first thing we saw after leaving our casino lodgings was the Paul Bunyan statue. Naturally, we wandered over for photos. Much later, I would hear about how the same statue attacked characters in Stephen King's novel It....I can see it now.

William Mc — Google review

This is an odd statue it just appears and it is so much in the middle of no where. But Paul is so big it gives me the shivers. Very manly too with his flannel shirt and full beard. However, the green jeans make me question things.

Well worth the early rise and the ride up to see the sunrise. We beat the crowd and the need to make parking reservation by going in early May.Beautiful few minutes that you would not want to trade for extra snooze time or coffee in the morning.

S Lee — Google review

Nice drive up to one of the best views in the park. Getting sunrise tickets is extremely difficult. Sunset tickets are easier to grab. Really hard to hike to the top but it’s some great hiking on the way up! Definitely worth doing!

Nathan Bantle — Google review

We missed the sunrise but that didn’t matter much! The first sunrise on eastern side of the U.S. from here is only a few months out of the year. The views from here are incredible! It’s breathtaking! You have to climb a bit on rocks to really get the full impact, be adventurous. There are walkways too for those afraid of heights. It’s best to have sneakers with some great grip, bring sunglasses and pack up the sunblock. The parking is kinda tight. There’s also restrooms and a store for drinks and goodies. Enjoy it!

Cadillac Mountain, located in the Acadia National Park and probably one of the highest points of the east coast, is an incredible place to visit. There are many hiking trails to go up to the summit however we decided to drive and we weren't disappointed when we got there. The spectacular views are breathtaking. Wow!!! We had a beautiful sunny but windy day. I presume it's always windy at that height. There are also restrooms and a small gift shop at the top of the mountain. The air up there is so fresh and pure!! We really had a great time and I highly recommend it. Really worth the drive!!

Luce Morin — Google review

It’s truly a beautiful view from here! We visited off season so didn’t need reservations, but during the season (usually end of May through October) you need a separate permit to drive up to the summit.Seeing the sunrise from the top of Cadillac mountain is a beautiful (albeit cold) experience. In my opinion it was totally worth getting up at 4am for. If you end up doing that, bring a blanket and then head over into town for some great Maine breakfast.

Iliana Radneva — Google review

The highest peak on the eastern seaboard of the United States was beautiful. I am more and more afraid of heights as I get older and this was a very doable experience. We drove to the top which required a $6 reservation in advance. We were able to book it the day before once we knew the weather was going to be good. The top of the mountain is relatively flat which allowed me to walk on most of the walkways and enjoy the views. There is a gift shop at the top of the mountain that has a special stamp for your National Park Passport but make sure they are open before you head up to the top so you are not disappointed if you miss it.

Andrew Kassouf — Google review

We got up early to view the sunrise. Very cold and windy but worth it. We went during the off season and had not problems and didn’t have to make a reservation. During the season you need to make a reservation. Great view of the area.

Cadillac Mountain: Breathtaking AcadiaCadillac Mountain, located in Acadia National Park in Maine, is a stunning destination that offers breathtaking views and a memorable outdoor experience. As the tallest peak on the East Coast of the United States, Cadillac Mountain attracts visitors from all over the world. Here's an amazing review of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia:Visiting Cadillac Mountain was an absolute highlight of my trip to Acadia National Park. The journey to the summit was an adventure in itself, with winding roads and scenic overlooks along the way. Once I reached the top, I was greeted with the most magnificent panoramic views I have ever witnessed. The sunrise from Cadillac Mountain is legendary, and it's easy to understand why. As the sun slowly rose above the horizon, the entire landscape was bathed in a golden hue, casting a magical glow over the mountains, forests, and lakes below. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight that words fail to capture adequately. The observation deck at the summit provided ample space for visitors to enjoy the view comfortably. I found myself lost in the beauty of the surrounding islands, the vast Atlantic Ocean, and the charming town of Bar Harbor in the distance. It was a serene and peaceful experience, and I felt like I was on top of the world.Three things that you should do on this mountain are1. Watch a Sun Rise2. Watch a Sun set3. Stargaze

Viswa Bharath — Google review

The weather was cloudy during our visit and the mountain top was crowded as can be expected for a popular destination. Online reservations are required in advance to enter the road to the summit to reduce overcrowding. Total cost per car is $6. Recommend booking at least 3 days in advance.

ericmtnbiker — Google review

A mountain formed by a volcanic eruption in bar harbor, maine. A great spot to do star gazing, in the late evening you may see a few people with telescopes to explore planets. You can drive your car up there. It is windy and open are, be careful if you have kids along with you. You will also see people running the trail. Being at such elevation gives you a beautiful view of the areas around from top

SRG — Google review

Absolutely stunning! And a must do. Get up early and plan accordingly!! We were unable to make the appointment to drive up…all good. Set out alarms for Early and started the hike to the summit at 3am. Gave ourselves 2 hours of hiking in the pitch black! Take flash lights for everyone. And dress warm as when you reach the summit it will be early and cool and breezy!Such an amazing experience that I will never forget!

J-Kube — Google review

This was the best hike during my 10 days in Acadia. I recommend submitting at golden hour and watching the sunset from such a great vantage point.I look forward to heading here again in future trips.Definitely recommend.

christopher paprocki — Google review

I love to drive up here in any weather. Been here 3 times just this year experiencing different weather. The 1st time i went was to watch the sunset, the second time was summer we went for a sunrise watch and in fall, 😅😅 we had zero visibility due to the incoming storm that day. But a must visit when in Acadia National Park.

Rhea Tulio — Google review

Very beautiful panoramic view. We had reservations and went early in the morning. Very windy and it was cold but the views were lovely.

Jen Smith — Google review

Lovely drive. Once you get to the summit there's ample room to explore. Walk the paths or explore the bedrock - just stay clear of the other areas. If you go during peak season make sure you have reservations!

Jennifer Nolen — Google review

Definitely worth the effort and time to get up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. The views were absolutely incredible. There are several trails that you can take moderate intensity hikes. When we reached the summit, it was fogged in, but the fog cleared within 30 minutes and the results were fabulous revealing Beautiful views of Bar Harbor and the surrounding area of Acadia National Park. Don’t let bad weather slow you down. Remember reservations are mandatory, you pay six dollars per car regardless of how many people are inside.

Jason Amiama — Google review

A must-visit gem within Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain comes highly recommended. To secure your visit, make an advanced reservation through the NPS website, especially if you're planning to witness the sunrise, as these slots fill up quickly. We opted for a sunset view, which was truly spectacular.Regardless of the season, don't forget to bring a jacket as it can get quite chilly and windy at the summit. Parking is plentiful, and the panoramic views, encompassing Bar Harbor and the surrounding islands, are nothing short of spectacular. Be sure to add this to your itinerary and book your spot in advance for an unforgettable experience.IG: journey_man16

I've visited 27 National Parks. This one is closest to me. Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain is a bucket list item. It DID NOT disappoint. It'll move you. Passes to see sunrise from this location book out months to even a year out. BUT, from October 15 to December 1, weather permitted, the sunrise is open to ALL. No pass is needed. We took advantage of our close proximity to cash in on this one in a million sunrise. I can't recommend enough if you have the opportunity to get up there and see it. Just dress warmly. I can not stress that enough.

Cherri Glidden — Google review

What a spectacular place, can be reached both by hiking and driving. Drive to the summit is of around 4 miles.Go for booking a slot for sunrise but if you can’t make it, plan the summit so that you can spend some time till sunset. Sunset on other side of the mountain is as beautiful as sunrise.Don’t miss if you’re visiting Acadia National Park

Samiran Mondal — Google review

You have to pre-purchase the ticket online. It is by vehicle size. The drive is amazing with several stops to view and take pics. The parking at the top is ample, and the views are worth it. You can walk out on the rock ledges for grea pics. The walks are fairly easy. The top is set up for people of all physical abilities. Great place to stay for hours. It's first place to see the sunrise on the east coast.

Bobby — Google review

Nice views. It's unfortunate that there is a field of wind turbines in view from the overlook. Parking is limited, so make sure you reserve a spot online.

Ed Conley — Google review

Watching the Cadillac Mountain sunrise is a bucket list activity that does not disappoint! The view from the summit for the sunrise is jaw dropping and is by far the best place to see the sunrise on the East Coast! Make sure to book the Cadillac Mountain sunrise tickets months in advance and when you are up there find a private spot to be the first people to witness the sunset in America!

Andre McMahon — Google review

Great excursion! Make sure you make a reservation online ahead of time, but it is so worth it. Restrooms at the top, and little gift shop, and a variety of trails for all skill levels.

The Shore Path is a lovely route to walk along the coastline that leads into Bar Harbor. The trail commences on the street running from Havana eatery and culminates at the town's center. There are numerous stunning residences along the way, and several areas to perch on rocks or benches. In addition, visitors can see Balance Rock, a well-known landmark, as well as a park en route. The path boasts picturesque scenery and provides an opportunity for tranquil exploration.

A nice out and back walk. We were there at low tide. It was great to walk along the path after eating.

A wonderful stroll on the Bar Harbor shore. There are benches closer to the park and few to none towards the end. It's a flat and at least 5' wide in most parts. There are plenty of places to climb down to the shoreline.

Vineyard

Food & Drink

Pete Luckett's Luckett Vineyards is an award-winning vineyard with easy-drinking wines that offers a scenic hillside location, excellent dining menu and hospitality.

A highlight of our trip through Nova Scotia and PEI. Beautiful landscape and gardens, great service, and delicious things to sip and eat! We went home with 4 bottles and a variety of artisan goods (candles, snacks). We phoned our kids from the red phone booth in the vineyard, it was adorable. Definitely recommend stopping in, but go early - we were told it gets quite busy with tours later in the day.

K Thom — Google review

Based on a local friend's recommendation, we stopped by Luckett Vineyards for wine tasting. We arrived around lunch time and decided to have lunch as well. We were seated at the tent which has a propane heater so it was good even it was only 9c today. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious and not overpriced. The phone booth on the vineyard is good for a selfie.

Kenneth Hui — Google review

Had a great time visiting the vineyard! The wine tasting was very be affordable for 12$. The selections was pretty good. My favorite was their white and rose wine selections. The bistro was decent! No wait time.We had the charcuterie board which was delicious. We ordered the fries and as someone reviewed before, they are good but over seasoned which made it hard for me to heat the fries half way through the dish. I'd still recommend coming to the winery!

Mr Reviewer — Google review

I am being generous because the food was greatly lacking. The mussels we got have been fresher in Ontario and this is right beside where you get them from. The service in the tasting flight was good, really loved the product he is selling. The buried wine has a great back story to it…bought 3 to enjoy at home. Oh and the gardens….wow a thing of beauty.

David Hosey — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous setting with views across the valley.Well maintained dining area and tasting room.Seems to be a well oiled machine. We visited on the weekend and it was insanely busy with a long queue to purchase products in the store.Wait times to be seated for food were short and food promptly arrived. My wifes drink took forever to appear, she was almost done eating before it arrived.I ordered the steak pie dish and it was a little underwhelming, while I know you can't produce a fully cooked from scratch pie in 15 minutes it did seem like it was pre cooked and then finished to serve. The flavor was a little bland. Which is disappointing as we were looking forward to trying it.The fries that came with it were however awesome. The staff seemed nice but a little run off their feet.Worth a visit if only for the wine and views.

Daniel Paull — Google review

While it was one of the most pretty wineries, the food service was closed during open hours and the bar staff at the wine tasting service were apathetic and unenthusiastic. The worst experience of all our wine tastings in the region. Their Rose's all taste similar. The tidal vintage was very refreshing and tasty and the red phone booth was a unique element that had many people trying for pictures. Extremely commercialized. If the bistro is open, it might be worth the visit but the wine leaves me wanting.

David Lefort — Google review

Great experience! Food, wine, staff, view, everything impeccable. Such an amazing day. There was a waiting time of about 20 mins, even mid week. And they don’t take reservation. Better get there early to avoid the line. Our waiter Michael was such a lovely guy. Professional, quick and witty!

Parihan Rashidi — Google review

We visited while staying in the area recently. Beautiful gardens and the phone booth is neat. We had the wine tastings and everything was pretty good. We had lunch and the food was delicious and the service very good.

Doug — Google review

Incredible view to match the incredible hospitality! We recently attended the drag show here and had the best time. The service was above and beyond, the food delicious with super generous portions, and the phone box rosé was refreshing and delicious. I highly recommend planning your visit to coincide with the "golden hour" just as the sun starts to go down over the valley.

Lauren Williams — Google review

A must stop for the area. Whether you love wine, food or a good atmosphere, you will enjoy your time here. Lunch was lovely and along with a short tour and wine tasting, it was a complete experience. The store has a variety of wines, books, memorabilia and more for wine fans. Strongly recommended. Be sure to check out the red phone booth of soon-to-be international fame.

Thomas Rogers — Google review

We visited Luckett Vineyards this past weekend and we were both very pleased with our experience! We did the wine tasting and lunch at the winery. We loved the wines.. I especially enjoyed their Tidal Bay wine. It was raining quite heavily so we didn’t spend much time outside, but we would love to return to be able to walk around the vineyard more.

Nadine Lovell — Google review

Beautiful winery with a large and bright tasting room that is adjacent to their restaurant. Came on a Monday during grad week, so it was very busy for the restaurant side, but the tasting side was quiet. The lovely young lady pouring for us knew most of the tasty notes, so was able to keep the conversation going. The wines were all bright and acidic (non-reds tasted) with a fun red phone booth in the vineyard that was actually from the UK. Not my fav in the region as I found the ones I tried lacked depth. Will try the premiums next time. I did buy the cans and boy were they fun. The bubbly rose was an easy crowd pleaser. The wine spritzers were well balanced and so easy to drink on a hot summer day or in your backpack to enjoy after a hike as they are in the 250 mL can format.Lunch: Very tasty sandwiches that gave satisfying bites. A small incident with the chowder, but the server was quick to fix. It was a very busy day so food took a bit and with only 3 servers, patience was needed. Luckily at the end, they pulled staff from the tasting room to support the servers as they were running. Overall a tasty lunch with great view into the vineyard as the room was bright with high ceilings.

Minh Le — Google review

We had high expectations for Luckett Vineyards as we heard about this place from different sources and they all have enjoyed it. The wine tasting and the ambiance were both excellent. For an affordable price of just $12, we were able to try out different wines straight from the winery! I really enjoyed their selection of white wine, especially the Riesling. However, the bistro was extremely disappointing. Wait time was slightly longer than expected, especially when we went after lunch rush hours, around 2 pm. The appetizer (breadboard and salad) were both decent. The biggest issue we had were the entrees and the fries. Seafood chowder was mediocre at best, as we could taste the fishiness. The brisket + Pickle sando was very bland, and the baguette bread used for the sandwich was very hard to bite into. Seasoning issue was also present in Tomato + Avo sandwich. The dealbreaker for us was the fries that came with in both dishes. They were both extremely over seasoned, as the picture shows. Very disappointing experience.

Eric — Google review

The food was fresh and delicious. We were delighted.” “My dining experience at Lockett Vineyards was truly exceptional. From the moment we entered, the welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff made us feel right at home. The view from the restaurant area was incredible. Thank you.

Antonio Mifsud — Google review

Very nice winery in Wolfsville. Situated overlooking Minas Basin and has gained a tourist magnet with the phone booth. The wines are relatively expensive, but the quality speaks for itself. Would be happy to find this also in Europe.Unfortunately, the bistro and the store is only open until 4/5 pm. Dinner a little later would have been nice. Maybe then on the next visit.

Garden

Nature & Parks

The Halifax Public Gardens is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of the city. It features manicured lawns and gardens that have been used for weddings and photo shoots, as well as being a great spot to relax and people-watch. The gardens include a variety of plants from different climates which line the paths.

With a beautiful garden such as the Halifax Public Gardens, I honestly don’t understand why Halifax isn’t a bigger travel destination than it is. This park is absolutely stunning, especially in springtime. With the trees blooming and the tulips out, you are never going to have an unremarkable time here 🌷🌸✨

Beautiful garden and maintained very well! The paths are easy to walk on. The flowers were in full bloom. There were people just taking a stroll, sitting on park benches, or grabbing a bite with friends/coworkers. Great place to eat outside. I can imagine locals coming here for daily walks. There are probably events held at the park as well during the summer. So glad I got to visit while I was in Halifax!

A very beautiful garden in the heart of the city.. All the flowers are neatly planted and colourful display everywhere ranging from annuals, tropicals and perennials all combined in amazingly arranged flower beds for people to enjoy. No dogs allowed.there’s very old fountains around and planted trees to commemorate special occasions from coronations to being the leaders of uprising against enemies. Etc etc etc. accessible almost any point in the city that surrounds the garden.

A must-visit for visitors to the city. Even though I visited in October, there were still lots of flowers in the gardens. There was a dahlia showing which was a pretty presentation of colourful blooms. Prepare to spend at least an hour strolling through the gardens, more time needed if you are going to the coffee shop.

Stunning display of Victorian gardens, carefully laid out and well tended for public enjoyment. Tours are offered and Volunteers are available to answer questions. A small coffee shop offers lighter fare for a snack. Test rooms are also available on site. Lovely bridges and meandering water features are planted with lovely trees, shrubs, and flowers.A must see for the garden enthusiast.

If you are seeking a serene experience in the middle of the hustle and bustle this is the perfect place to stop by!Everywhere you look you are surrounded by beauty here. From the tree lined pathways, the flower designs, pond, gazebo or even the water fountain that has been there since Queen Victoria 👸 There is so much for the eyes to capture.Kids will love it here too as there are ducks, fish and other critters for them to get excited about here.I do recommend taking the time to read the various signs that explain the rich history of these gardens. There are even signs that explain the various trees and vegetation around the garden too.Street parking can be a bit scarce, but there is underground parking near the main entrance that is relatively inexpensive. We paid $6 for 3 or 4 hours.I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to experience these gardens.

The public gardens is a nice addition to the middle of the city. When you’re inside it doesn’t even really feel like you’re in a city. This summer they had a little garden of different flower types that I hadn’t noticed in previous years. It’s a great spot to sit by the water and watch the ducks with a coffee or lunch.

Visited mid-June and the park was a riot of color and gorgeous trees and bushes. Some of the beds were still waiting to be planted, but the grounds are quite beautiful, with the pond being a great feature. I liked how the trees were labeled as well. Great place to stroll with a coffee before starting your day.

It is definitely the most beautiful garden in Hslifax, and probably one of the most beautiful in Canada. It is very popular with locals, is very well maintained, and there are posts with the names of flowers written, so you can actually learn about the flower you are seeing. The park was built in the second half of the nineteenth century and has been kept in the same Victorian style.

Nice park in the middle of the city, wish we had more time to walk through it. Lots of flowers in the summer and green grass. There’s a body of water and lots of trees and pathways. The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is a star-shaped hilltop fort that offers guided tours and a coffee bar & gift shop. It is located in the city of Halifax and has been part of Canada's national parks system since it was created in 1749. The fortress has been used to defend the city from attack, and today, it is popular with ghost tour participants who can hear tales of bizarre legends on one of the citadels popular ghost tours.

A must visit of you are in the city. Be there before 12 noon to watch the noon gun firing! Lots of historic buildings, great ity views and very nice guided tour provided. The museum inside the fort has a lot of interesting artifacts, uniforms and a huge variety of guns covering different eras. Nice gift shop too. You can easily spend 3-4 hours to see everything.

Dimitris Protsios — Google review

Definitely one of the most popular things to do in Halifax! Highly recommend arriving around 11:00 a.m. as this will allow you to see the canon fired at noon and the changing of the guard at 1:00 followed shortly by a musket demonstration. We found that this was perfect timing. There are lots of History college students who are employed to tell you about the area so questions are easily answered. Also fun that they are dressed in time period attire. If you will plan on watching the canon, instead of lining up right next to it I would suggest going across the way. The explosion is still enough for you to feel and you will get a much better view. However, you will not be able to hear the explanation of what is going on that is given by one of the employees.

Melissa Arenson — Google review

The people who work here are very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot from them. They also have soldiers who wear the traditional wool outfits and honestly bless them. It’s so hot and they have to wear all this gear in such hot weather. Some interactive spots and there is one area which is air conditioned. Would recommend going to the bathroom prior to coming as there a few bathrooms. Fill up a water bottle and watch your step.

Excellent experience! The Halifax Citadel Society does a phenomenal job of presenting the history of not only the citadel but also the Halifax Harbour and area. The young people who work here are very knowledgeable in interpreting the history and talented in displaying the military drill and firearms. The piping band played on and off and sounded incredible and just set the tone. The exhibits were very well put together and there were many hands on activities to learn a lot. I absolutely loved my visit and could've spent more time but had to catch the ferry back to Dartmouth (which is also a great experience)!

For a Labour Day Monday, it wasn’t too busy. The concept of the site is quite intriguing. A fair amount of history behind in.In terms of location, it’s right downtown so very easy to get to.I really enjoyed the war museum, lots of great artifacts, weaponry and interesting stories I wasn’t aware of from WW1 and WW2.I do wish there were a bit more self-guided tour options though. I think there was a map we could have used but the ticket sale team didn’t really seem to tell us much. The interactive ‘kiosks’ I did see on the museum didn’t seem to be working anyways.

Steve Nicosia — Google review

Much visit if you are interested in the history of Halifax harbour and old fort built to defend Halifax port. There is an army museum inside the citadel. Three times a day there are guided tours to explain different parts of the citadel.

Hardeep Grewal — Google review

You can spend at least 3 hours here visiting this incredible historic site with its city views. There are regular displays and instances of what life was like here under colonial British rule. You can see the changing of the guard and watch troop drills in full historical accurate costumes .There is a very interesting museum with loads of interesting facts and stories. There's a lovely Cafe which you can take what will be a welcome break after walking the ramparts. Probably more interesting for us men or boys. Suggest the ladies go shopping 🥺

Dennis Smalley — Google review

Such a nice experience. I'm glad I went and visited. There's so much history.....I didn't take the guided tour but I read, read, and read when I was in the museum. (I would suggest the ticket counter provide information regarding the time of the guided tour, because I would gladly join)The historical background of the cidatel is so interesting, this tour has enabled me to understand Nova Scotia in a profound way.

It's easy to see why this is THE signature attraction of Halifax. As first-timers to the city, this was first on the list - we were all enthused to see Canadian history unfold before us as we climbed the steps up the hill. The actors are very much into what they do, and the exhibits are very detailed. It even has a special exhibit on the D-day landing, as we know several vessels left Halifax for the event. We stayed for the 12noon cannon blast, which was spectacular. Even when leaving the fortress, we once again admired the view out over Halifax - you can't beat this place for the perfect panoramic vista!

Beautiful tourist spot. There are many rooms with historical monuments, museum exhibits and movie theaters. You can learn a lot of history about Halifax from its very beginnings. The staff fulfills their duties and tries to make the arrival here as comfortable as possible. Sometimes they show the preparation for firing a cannon. There are usually many willing, take good places to watch. Everything is safe and within the permitted limits. Don't forget to bring earplugs. A cannon shot is quite loud. Tickets are not expensive, you can spend time with your family and learn a lot of interesting things. Parking is available, paid additionally.

Wow. Amazing citadel with guided or self tours. The staff is wearing period clothing and noon canon firing. Very interesting museum and exhibits. Fun day for families, picnics, and history.

Interesting history around Halifax and the Citadel. In the information center runs a film in English and French. Unfortunately, the sound did not work for us.In the citadel you can walk through different stations. With children certainly a very nice attraction. The entrance fee for an adult I find a bit expensive. Here you could improve, then probably more visitors would come.

Fun watching all the drills. The "soldiers" walking around demonstrating the marching, formations, and weapons was cool. We saw a rifle demonstration where a soldier fired three shots very quickly, and were present for the noon cannon firing. The tour was good and worth the price. Tours run in English and in French.

Citadel is the place where the city was first formed. After centuries, it is now a museum and famous tourist place in the city. Being a resident of the city, I got the opportunity to visit it multiple times. The place comes to life during summer when flocks of tourists visit the charming place. This is the time when the museum is open, guards are present, and one needs to purchase entry ticket of 8.5 CAD (not needed if you have a Discovery pass). Winter is more timid. Not many activities except the noon canon during this time. That also means it is open for all without a ticket but you don't get the flavour since nothing inside is open. Over and all, a must visit place for everyone visiting downtown. Careful if you visit during mid day and with a kid. The noon canon is really loud.

The fort was awesome. It was full of interesting sights and informative displays. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. One of the highlights was that of the bagpiper playing haunting melodies at various times throughout the day. They also had a partial recreation of D-Day from a Canadian soldier's perspective.

David Carlson — Google review

This place is much more fun than I expected! I loved the immersive experience I had while observing the soldiers playing drums/bagpipes and shooting their guns. There are two museums with lot of history with a great quantity of artifacts. I spent around 3:30h walking around and I could visit it all. Cheers for the female soldiers! Recommend!

July 1st Canada Day 🇨🇦 makes Citadel a different place and experience. A visit to Citadel occasionally and on this special day brings a lot of charm and historical value to your visit. Citadel Hill is Jam packed with visitors on Canada day. Parking is free. Make sure to have your sunglasses 👓 ready if it's hot 🔥 day. There is museum in the fort which is free on Canada day.

One of the oldest citadels in Canada, the citadel of Halifax, should be on top of the list of the places to visit when you're in town. The area is huge with lots of exhibitions on the history of the military and the city itself there. Expect to spend at least two hours to get the most of what the place has to offer.

Reza Sattarzadeh Nowbari — Google review

This is a must see when in Halifax. The price for an adult is $12.50. If you are going, I would suggest being there for noon because everyday they fire off a cannon except Christmas. There is so much to see. The history from WW1 all the way to the recent wars in Afghanistan is incredible. There is so much to see and learn. There is so much to learn and to see how things have changed over the years. The most amazing thing for me was the Juno Beach display. I actually felt like I was there and it gave me a real understanding what the allied troops went through fighting the Germans. Give yourself plenty of time to visit the barracks and everything this place has to offer.

Ardis Snow — Google review

We were in Halifax for one day only. We walked from the cruise terminal to the Citadel, which on occasions was quite steep. It's actually a pleasant walk past some more historical properties.8 dollars entrance fee with under 18's free.Well worth the time and cost. We were there approximately 1.5 hours; we could have stayed longer, but as it was a short trip, we wanted to see other places too.On the hour the bagpipes were played which was wonderful. Staff were dressed in period costumes and shared information. The museum has a nice layout and is full of interesting history, which is very well presented.Highly recommend. Some nice views, too.Free WiFi, but was slightly flaky.

Nicki Styles — Google review

It was nice, we went at 4:30 and they told us it was free until 5:00 PM. The inside had lots of information, people were dressed up and the museum inside was so interesting. Definitely should drop by! It's on a hill, so be prepared to walk! I honestly enjoyed it.

Aishah Waheed — Google review

Amazing exhibits. Be sure to see the newest one right of the information center. When we went there we realized the narration was much better and we enjoyed how interactive it was but alas we were short on time. Change of guards, the pipe show was fun. And views were spectacular.

Kamna — Google review

I found the museum in the main building much more interesting than the big gun going off or watching the teenagers in period costumes marching around the grounds. The museum has relics and artifacts from the Canadian military from wars past, war trophies from soldiers, and more curiosities to learn from as well. I found that area the most fascinating. Take your time and enjoy it.

Sunny Kaura — Google review

My husband and I came in ‘shoulder season’ so there wasn’t a full time table of re-enactments or activities, but that was ok.Lots to see and do as you explore the timeline for the French and British rule in the area, you can easily spend half a day or more here.Very friendly volunteers and staff that are happy to answer any questions you may have.It would have been good to have some sort of sign posts / direction to let you know a recommendation on where to walk round and in what direction so you make sure you see everything. If you have a Parks Canada Pass then it’s free entry.

Jamie Higgs-Dey — Google review

I would say don't miss to visit this place. Very old historical building. Amazing architectural design. From outside it looks just an ordinary place but when I entered inside this area, I was overwhelmed. British army served at WW1 and WW2 from this place. There are some exhibitions to demonstrate the history of british ruled Canada.

Museums

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax showcases Nova Scotia's maritime history from the fishery to World War II. There is an emphasis on boats and vessels, from small crafts to warships. Various exhibits explore different aspects of Nova Scotia's seafaring past, such as sailing days for early explorers to steam-powered boats. The museum also has a permanent exhibit about the Titanic disaster with artifacts and dozens of photos. It is open year round.

Loved the museum!Lots of interesting stuff for kids and adults. The only disappointment was that we could visit the CSS Acadia.Apparently, it is open only on Tuesdays, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 to 4:30 pm. 🤷‍♀️If you have a chance, jump on a group tour about the Titanic. Our guide was incredible! The most entertaining guided tour we ever had.Outside is a good kids' playground.

Roman — Google review

This museum was pretty good. Interesting stuff on the Titanic and Halifax disaster. On the second floor, there was a small theatre that played those Canadian Heritage commercials (on loop) from like twenty years ago. Such a walk down memory lane from my childhood.

David P — Google review

Total enjoyed the Maritime Museum! So much history, it was busy, the items are so interesting. Would love to return. The Titanic section was so interesting as was the Halifax explosion.

Lisa Dobson — Google review

I appreciate the efforts of so many to provide slices of history and other nautical information to the museum! I rarely get there, but I'm so glad to be greeted by that glowing lighthouse light. I've enjoyed it since I was little. Viewing William Hall's cross; looking at more details about the Halifax Explosion, and even checking out a Sable Island monitoring station scavenger, were unforgettable highlights. Get over when you're able. Museum passes are very good for curiosity-quenching times.

Jasmine Wongus — Google review

Really great museum. The employees are full of knowledge for all your questions, especially Titanic and the harbour explosion. They have a blue macaw named Merlin and he is a ginormous sweetheart. He likes to nap in the afternoon, but he will chat with you if you approach him right. Sorry to spend so much time on the parrot, he was such a darling so no ragerts.

Paige — Google review

This place was such a cool find!! I need to start by saying the people who work here were fantastic, greeted you with a smile and so friendly!! I was excited to come and see the Titanic exhibit and didn't really know what else to expect from the experience. I ended up loving the entire museum start to finish. They have a few great spots in there for some fun photo ops and a little observation deck up top overlooking the gorgeous waterfront. Tickets were priced right and we even got to wish Merlin the parrot a happy birthday! Check it out if you are in the area.

Pam Ricci — Google review

There are 2 floors to the museum. When you enter, there's a information display to your left that talks about the history of the building that houses the museum. In front of you is where you pay for your admission. Adult admission is $9.55.The day we went, they were showing a special short 11 min film about the Titanic: The Halifax Story between 11 am to 12 pm on the second floor in their mini theatre. There's another movie that plays. About the Bluenose. Another movie called Sable Island plays, 28 min. They seem to show different movies, with different times. I caught the tail end of the Bluenose movie. The last movie today is Sable Island. The museum workers show movies on days that are particularly busy, to thin out the crowds in the exhibits. The walking onto the deck of the CSS Acadia wasn't open, cause of the rainy weather. On the ground floor, there's a person working on assembling model ships. There are lots of model ships. There is history here about the Halifax Explosion. There is a Indigenous exhibit. They have a parrot in a cage here named Merlin. The second floor has history about the Titanic and Nova Scotia shipwrecks. Artefacts of the Titanic can be found in the displays. And a lot of model ships. There's an area about sailing as well.bthe floorboards creak very loudly- I assume to mimic the creaky floorboards of an actual ship. The day we went, it got pretty busy as time passed. We spent about 5 hours here. Surprisingly a good museum. Was much more than we expected.

TheArchitect — Google review

Neat place. Loved the models, especially. They were so intricately detailed. You could tell that a lot of time and effort had gone into their restoration, which was done by a group of volunteers! It was absolutely amazing to see.

Barry Britt — Google review

This should be on the "must-see" list of all visitors to Halifax. As the oldest and biggest maritime museum in Canada, it provides an excellent history of Halifax, as well as seafaring in general. You can see exhibits that range from the sinking of the Titanic, to the Halifax explosion of 1917, a history of the Mi'kmaq indigenous people, and the children's TV show Theodore Tugboat, which was inspired by Halifax. The observation deck, meanwhile, offers gorgeous views of the waterfront (see videos below), while I also enjoyed the replica that let's you feel like you are sailing on a ship (see video below)

James C — Google review

Fantastic small museum. Laid out very nice and the staff were great. It was a great place to visit while downtown Halifax. Highly recommend it if you are in the area. Also a great place for children. They also have a great "huge" patio area where you can sit outside and enjoy the waterfront!

Glen Maylone — Google review

I went here for my cadets. This place was really nice and very informative with the cool models ships and blocks with history. We were also provided with a scavenger hunt with answers that could be found around the place.Their was also music and singing upon my visit with small tables with activities.

Chas Chen — Google review

Super interesting museum. Get to learn About the Halifax explosion, and see artifacts from the Titanic. Neat place. They also have a beautiful Macau that might be suffering from anxiety.Entrance is free in Tuesday’s after 5pm.

Carole Wang — Google review

I am no museum expert. I had meh expectations going in to this place. But I was very much delighted by this place. So much rich history all explain and very nicely laid out. From the Halifax explosion to shipwrecks to the titanic. Very well done and enjoyable. Never thought being educational would be a huge positive but this place just kept you want more. Spent easily a couple hours here. A very large collection of very intricate models are all around. Fascinating to think of all the work out into those. Absolutely worth the money.Great place for adults and kids. Nice gift shop inside as well. I bought a shirt. No review on the shirt yet.

Rob Nixon — Google review

Definitely one of the coolest museums I've been to. I've never been to a maritime museum, but have always wanted to go. Interesting even for the kids. So much information on boats, shipwrecks, the Halifax disaster, and the Titanic. Many artifacts from the Titanic at this location. Really enjoyed the room with all of the sailboats. There is a ship outside that you can tour as well, however it was closed when we wanted to tour it. Two floors of information. You could spend at least 4+ hours here. We spent about 2 hours and definitely did not get through it all. Lots to learn about!

Megan Hall — Google review

Great place, lots to see and experience! The Titanic section was a big hit, but anyone interested in maritime history, boats, and even navigational aids will not be disappointed!! If you need a break, they also have a deck where you can sit and watch the ships in the harbour.

susan nicolle — Google review

This museum has gone through some impressive upgrades since the last time I went. This time we went for the Titanic exhibit. Would recommend checking it out. The balcony overlooking the waterfront is worth going to for great views of the harbour and the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk.

Geoffrey Bishop — Google review

What an amazing gem of a museum! It took me over 2 hours to get through the exhibits and I learned so much about the local maritime history. The cost is very reasonable. Wouldn’t appeal as much to younger children as it’s very reading heavy - would be even more incredible with some more interactive exhibits.

Shilo Davis — Google review

As my other museum reviews, I will say that this is a great gem. I came by due to a change in travel plans. It's well worth traveling for, with strong story telling of both Halifax and Titanic.

Jens Alsted — Google review

Fantastic small museum just by the Halifax waterfront. Really nice staff as well. Open all day till 5pm. They have really great exhibits of different ship reproductions as well as detailed stories on the titanic, the Halifax explosion, as well as treasures from shipwrecks. Great place to visit if you’re ever in the Halifax downtown area.

Phebe Havor — Google review

Maritime Museum of Atlantic, is a good place for the family visiting. Where you can find out not only about Canadian story of maritime, but worldwide as well. Some of the Museum items, are came from real ships!

Andrew K — Google review

A great place for learning the history of sailing and ships. The most precious exhibits in this museum is the real relic which refloated from Titanic, since Halifax is one of the nearest city to the wreck of Titanic.

hanhua ge — Google review

Went because my Mom wanted to go but I really enjoyed it. Excellent information and displays, especially thought the Halifax Explosion section was really well done and of course the Titanic exhibit.

brenda johnson — Google review

It was a cool experience going to the museum. They have lots of artifacts from all eras of boats and ships, including some of the Titanic. Also, they have the original models for the Thomas the Tugboat tv show!

Nice way to spend am afternoon. It was a rainy day so we decided to check it out. Great ship reproductions as well as excellent information on the titanic and Halifax explosion. After the museum make a point to go to the cemetery where the titanic and hakifax graves and memorial are located.

The Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk is a popular tourist attraction in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The boardwalk has a wide variety of restaurants and shops, as well as attractions like the Halifax Waterfront Ballpark. It's a lively and busy place that's great for family fun.

Walking the waterfront is my favourite thing to do in Halifax. The boardwalk is incredibly accessible and full of history, beautiful views and great food. Listening to local buskers and people watching is part of the journey. The colourful Adirondack chairs Harbourside are a great place to take in a drink or ice cream and enjoy the afternoon. Highly recommend.

Lovely, serene and historic. A place to relax, a place to explore, a place to enjoy. Eat, drink and be merry! Wear comfy shoes! If you climb the hill to the top take it nice and easy! Surprisingly, going downhill that steep was a challenge too and I was wishing I brought open toe sports sandals too. The whole place is a delight. Worth the visit!

Christina Huang — Google review

My friends and I spent the day on Halifax waterfront. It was gorgeous weather, so the walk along the front was lovely, just looking at the sculptures and chatting to a friendly police officer. We visited Pier 21. The Maritime museum was great, particularly the Titanic exhibition. We did a harbour tour on a small, electronic boat. Unfortunately the brewery was shut that day, but we ate at The BG, which was buzzing that day. Fabulous!

The Halifax Waterfront is a picturesque area located along the harbor in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It features a blend of historic charm and modern attractions, with a bustling boardwalk, scenic views of the water, various shops, restaurants, and cultural landmarks such as the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.In my review, I highly recommend visiting this place; it's an absolute must-see.

A good walk with beautiful views, sculptures, shops selling things that appeal to tourists in s couple or markets, memorials to Lebanese immigrants, and Norwegians who lost thier lives in WW2. All very nice. It's an outdoors walk. I went at night and during the day in December. Beautiful.

It’s a great place to chill out, taking in the sights. You can access to its long, beautiful boardwalk from ample parking spots nearby. There are many benches to stop, appreciating the Dartmouth skyline with some boats sailing. I, personally, haven’t seen any cruise ships yet, but there are always many things to see. Also, you can always have a variety of options regarding what to eat.

Michael Chung — Google review

Awesome place to spend hours strolling the boardwalk along the harbourfront. A great selection of shops and pop up tents selling their wares. Ships and sailboats to observe, buskers, face painters, caricaturists, henna artists, etc populate the boardwalk.

Phil Vania — Google review

Wonderful boardwalk with ships, restaurants, park spaces and great views on clear days. Bring an umbrella regardless of weather; “cloudy” means being in a cloud with drizzling rain, “Sunny” means enough direct sunlight and heat that you’ll be happy for the shade.Boards are close set and smooth enough for a stroller and dogs. Park area has musical instrument stops and activities painted on the ground for kids. Each dock has surprisingly comfortable seats for taking in the view.Enough options for lobster rolls and steamed mussels that you never have to have it now because it’ll be on the menu everywhere. “Cow’s ice cream” was great. “Harbor hopper tours” was fun; not much historic information about Halifax but still a good time and the kids loved it.

James “Wolff” Weiner — Google review

This is one of the most beautiful waterfronts i have seen. People may say different but it depends on what you like. Day or night this place has sl much to offer for me. In the evening it comes alive. Great eateries and pubs and then there's always time for a Timmy's (Tim Hortons). At night the twin towers at Purdy's wharf take on a ghostly appearance. Sunsets behind the silhouetted road bridges can be spectacular. A truly wonderful city.

Dennis Smalley — Google review

The Halifax Waterfront is a great boardwalk with beautiful views around. The ferry station is right there if you want to get to the other side of the harbor. There are locations to get on the local bus or the tour buses that roam the area. There are a lot of places to shop and eat between the Casino and the train station. Overall, the Halifax Waterfront is a beautiful place to spend time with enough around to occupy your day.

Matthew C — Google review

Stopped here on our last day in Nova Scotia. It was very nice and built out. Lots of beautiful views, benches, and even hammocks. I was a little disappointed with how many places were closed on a Sunday evening in October, but maybe I was just too late in the season. I recommend hoping in a ferry ride to get a nice tour of the area for cheap. There were a number of people that seemed to be very drunk walking around which was strange. Other than that, a very nice experience.

Olivia Roy — Google review

Great walk along the front with plenty of little shops, bars, restaurants & free seating to enjoy the view. Also well maintained during the winter months means it is easily accessible all year round.Well worth a stroll!

Daniel Robinson — Google review

A most interesting place to spend a morning. Great snacking options. The fish and chips at Katch was surprisingly delicious. I say "surprisingly" as I expected it to be too oily. It was far from that.Visiting the couple of ships on display was a peep into the maritime history of Nova Scotia.A ride on the amphibious vehicle was also a very unique experience.

Ranjit Shastry — Google review

There is so much to do and see, give yourself plenty of time and you could spend days there and not see everything. There are things for every age group. The number of restaurants is endless. You will find restaurants for casual cheap dining to high-end restaurants serving the best seafood in the world. There is so much for the kids to do and see. Ice cream that is out of this world especially the fog company and Cows. I know it doesn't sound like ice cream but it is. You can view the tall ships, the Corvette warship, rent jet skis, bike rentals, it is endless. While all this costs money, you can go there on a low budget and still have a great day.

Ardis Snow — Google review

So, so many things to see and do. I had an awesome lunch, watched live music and saw a cruise ship leave the harbour. I feel like it is such a bustling place that you could spend hours and not get bored. Loved it!

Victoria Park is a true gem in the heart of the city. The lush green trees and beautiful waterfalls create a peaceful oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of daily life. I always feel rejuvenated after a visit to this park and highly recommend it to anyone in need of a little nature therapy. The walking trails are well-maintained and offer a variety of scenic routes to choose from. Overall, Victoria Park is a must-see for anyone visiting the area.

Mohammed Etemmad — Google review

This is one of the greatest parks in the area and (in our opinion) the province - it just has so many amazing features like: hills, lookouts, staircases, gazebos, waterfalls, gorges, creeks and rivers, numerous trails, picnic areas, exercise area, and sports/play fields! Definitely worth visiting multiple times just due to the amount of various activities possible.

Mat Bienczyk — Google review

Family came to visit and we heard good reviews about Victoria Park and decided to spend the morning. This park was very beautiful and quiet with scenic trails and wildlife. Wasn’t expecting to see waterfalls either! Really enjoyed the park and will be returning!

This park is about 130 years old. It’s a beautiful well maintained urban woodland park spans across 3000 acres. It has many boardwalks. These boardwalks make waterfalls Waddell and Howe are easily accessible and provide an exciting backdrop for photos of family and friends. It has washrooms but this park is not very wheelchair friendly.Very tall pine trees and lots of squirrels and birds. It has a good parking lot and many entrances. If you are looking for some workout, you might wanna check out Jacob's ladder(147 steps) and some pull up bars at the top. All steps aren't the same size. It is open all year, but late spring and early summer would be ideal time to visit this park, as water levels would be at its highest. It is about a one and half hour drive from downtown Halifax. It's a beautiful and dynamic urban park. I love it for its natural features, including a dramatic steep-sided gorge, a winding river, cascading waterfalls, and a stately old-growth Eastern Hemlock forest. This place offers endless recreational, cultural and leisure opportunities. These include hiking, photography, birdwatching, day picnics, family gatherings, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming, baseball, cultural events, live music, tennis, cycling and more.If you are in Nova Scotia, and if you are a nature lover, I highly recommend going there.

Nishtha Rajpriya — Google review

Very well kept, be prepared for a lot of stairs if you want to explore the whole park. A lot of different trails you can explore. Cannot believe how beautiful and well kept the overall park is for the amount of people who visit. Climbing the stairs and walking along the trails up top have awesome views rather than just walking down below. Atleast two waterfalls to be seen as well.

Enjoyed the hike despite the cloudy drizzling weather. Visited Joe Howe Falls, the Waddell Falls and Wood Street Lookout. The path to Five Corners was closed today, so we didn’t get to see it. If we visit Truro again next time, we will come back to the park to explore the other areas.BTW, we were lucky to come across two deers during our hiking.

Kathy Lee — Google review

This place is Truro's best kept secret! What a lovely park with some lovely views of waterfalls. There are so many trail options that you could spend hours here. A few of the trails were damaged earlier this year in heavy rains so they were closed off until they can repair them, but even so, it was worth the time we took to stop and explore here. They also had lots of washrooms. Some of the stairs are a bit steep but they're not too bad if you just go slow and take your time.

This park turned out to be a real find on the way to Halifax. Big park where you can spend the whole day. The waterfalls were almost without water due to the dry season. But the area is very beautiful, well-groomed, with beautiful paths and stairs.

Excellent place for one day family trip. My kid enjoyed being there. I would say day spent well. Ample parking, maintained well. Toilets can be better.

Sathish Subramani — Google review

I did not expect this place to be so amazing because it’s in the middle of the city! They have tons of trails and they were pretty easy to navigate, well maintained so you can easily spend a whole day here. There are picnic tables out in front and some places to set up inside the park as well. I loved the loops and the hikes. They were unique despite being in the middle of an urban area. Must try the loop around the dam. 5/5 recommend. It also has a biking trail but we didn’t go on it.

Truly a beautiful park, all the boardwalks everywhere remind me of vancouver island. There is a ton of awesome trails to hike, multiple waterfalls and several neat bridges to cross! We come here with our dog all the time and have had no issues with anyone. Parking is never a problem either. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Short walk to the waterfalls that is mostly accessible, just near the end there are a few tree roots that make it a bit more challenging for pushing a stroller. Waterfalls are pretty nice, not the biggest in the world but fun to see. The kids playground has a lot of nice swings including an adult and child swing so you can swing together with your kiddo. Lots of parking here, bathrooms, and spots to picnic.

Lovely park with no entry fee. You can get to the falls if you walk all the way to the end and avoid the stairs. The water looks pristine. Near the falls, you can actually go for a swim if you'd like. They just advise against diving or jumping.Note that the stairs are a single beam of wood. These are very thin stairs. Take your time going up and down. There are plenty of benches located throughout the park, so don't worry about needing to find a spot to catch your breath or to eat a snack.

This wonderful park, which has a beautiful stream and waterfalls, is perfect for a hike. While the damage from last year's post-tropical storm Fiona is still visible (see some of the pictures below), the gorgeous greenery is still quite impressive. You can also find a children's playground, tennis courts, baseball diamond, and outdoor pool at Victoria Park.
