What is a Microwave Peach Pie?

I know, you’re already saying to yourself ‘peach pie? In the microwave? Really?’ Believe me; I get it. Don’t get delusions of grandeur here – it’s not going to be the same as an oven baked traditional pie.

However, the microwave can make a mean homemade peach pie filling using fresh peaches, with no stove required! Then, I just pop it into a pre-baked pie crust (that part is key), finish it with a crumb topping (no double crusts here, sorry) and finish it off.

Will it be golden brown? Nope. Will it be sweet, peachy, and delicious tasting? Yes!

Microwave peach pie is a recipe of convenience. It’s a great option if you don’t have an oven, don’t want to turn it on for over an hour in the heat of the summer, or you’re really short on time.

Microwave Peach Pie Ingredients

Microwave Peach Pie With Fresh Peaches: No Bake Dessert! - Dinners Done Quick (3)
  • 1 prebaked pie crust (I use a 9” Keebler shortbread crust)
  • 6 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (about 3 cups of fruit)
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch

For the Crumb Topping (Optional)

  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup salted butter (softened)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • Other prebaked pie crust types are fine as well (such as graham or plain)
  • You can also use frozen (defrosted) peaches or canned (drained) peaches instead of fresh
  • Feel free to skip the crumb topping if you want, but it adds a nice touch in place of a crust. You could also top with whipped cream!
  • If your prepared crust comes in an aluminum pan, make sure to remove the metal pan and transfer the crust to a microwave-safe pie plate of some sort before heating it

Recipe FAQs

What Type of Crust Should I Use?

You should use a 9” prebaked pie crust of your choice. Typical store options include shortbread, graham, cookies and cream, and traditional options.

This keeps the pie from getting soggy during cooking or ending up with soggy dough like a raw version would create.

How Long Does It Take to Cook Peach Pie in the Microwave?

Cooking times can vary, but typically, microwave peach pie takes about 10-15 minutes in total.

The exact time will vary depending on your microwave’s power and the size of the pie.

Can I Make Individual Servings of Peach Pie?

Yes, you can make individual servings of peach pie. I recommend prebaked tart shells or mini pie crusts for this.

Then, just split the filling evenly among 6 mini crusts. Start with 2 minutes for the finishing cook, and adjust up from there as needed until the crumb topping is set.

Should I Cover the Pie While Microwaving?

You do not need to cover the pie or the filling while microwaving.

However, if you want to prevent splatters, use a vented lid instead.

Can I Add Spices to the Peach Filling?

Yes, adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger, or a combination there can enhance the flavor of your peach pie.

You can also add seasonings to the crumb topping, along with chopped nuts if you’d like, to add additional flavor and texture.

How Do I Prevent the Pie from Becoming Soggy?

To prevent sogginess, make sure to drain any excess liquid from the peaches and use a thickening agent like cornstarch or flour in the filling.

This is also why it is important to use a prebaked pie crust, which eliminates excess moisture and holds up better in the microwave.

Can I Make a Gluten Free Version?

Stores do not readily sell gluten free no bake pie crusts. You could make your own homemade gluten free pie crust, but you would need to prebake it yourself. Then, simply swap a gluten free flour in for the all purpose, and make sure your other ingredients are certified gluten free.

The texture of gluten free crust is not quite the same, so it may fall apart more than a traditional crust, especially once the filling is added and it is baked.

What Type of Dish Should I Use to Microwave the Pie?

Use a microwave-safe pie dish or a similar microwave-safe baking dish to ensure even cooking and safety.

For the filling, you can use any microwave safe dish or bowl that fits the fruit, such as a mixing bowl or general purpose cooking dish.

Microwave Peach Pie Recipe Pro Tips

  • You can also choose to make the filling only in the microwave, and then transfer it to a traditional pie crust for baking in the oven. This skips the classic step of having to cook it over the stove to thicken!
  • Note that when choosing a prebaked pie shell, try to look for one without damage. When I made my pie today, mine was cracked and made the transfer to a pie plate extremely difficult. While messy, it still tasted great! But, try to save yourself the headache and use a sturdy one, purchase one in a microwave-friendly wrapper, or don’t bake it at all (add the filling to the pie crust directly after baking and skip the additional topping) for best results

Storage and Reheating Tips for Peach Pie

  • Store leftover peach pie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days
  • Reheat individual slices in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds until warm, if desired (but it’s also great cold)!

Final Thoughts

Microwave peach pie is a super simple way to make a no bake version of the classic dessert. Is it the same as oven baked? No. However, it’s sweet, packed with fresh juicy peaches, delicious, and incredibly convenient to make.

This is a great choice when you don’t have an hour to bake a pie, don’t want to turn on the oven in the summer, or don’t even have an oven because you have a small living space. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a tasty version of peach pie!

You can also swap in frozen or canned peaches if you can’t get fresh, or if you don’t want to spend the time peeling and cutting them. Top it up with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired, and enjoy this simple dessert!
